The Weekend that was at Spotify MOM in Cape Town

Following an East City Block in District Six and Central Business DistrictMOM First Thursdays” takeover, Mother of Music (MOM) weekend painted the city pink with a wave of immersive activities. From District Six to Paarden Eiland, and closing with a final Sunday party in Khayelitsha, the weekend was filled with love, soul, and the best of Cape Town’s vibrant culture.

Love, soul, and a blast…

On Friday, partygoers and creatives converged at Texas for an unforgettable Isyaadt Party hosted by KDOLLAHZ. The energy was undeniable as the crowd got their first taste of MOM, courtesy of The House of Le Cap, with DJs like DJ Portia and DJ Chello setting the night on fire. The highlight of the night was a jaw-dropping voguing session, where the House’s talent lit up the dance floor with a perfect score. Supported by a backdrop of the best 90s and 80s house music, the energy kept rising, proving Cape Town’s thriving house music scene.

Soul Mix and Soft Soul Mix playlist fans gathered at Selective Live for a soulful MOM edition of Strictly Soul. Soulful melodies flowed, with performances by Hunter Rose feeding the crowd’s spirits, while KashCPT showed why Cape Town’s creative community continues to command influence and power.

Power and Influence at MOM AT 10 NATAL ST

The party continued into Saturday at MOM AT 10 NATAL ST in Paarden Eiland, where a lineup of top-tier artists, including Vigro Deep and Lelowhatsgood, took over the space. Vigro Deep’s mastery of Amapiano demonstrated why the genre is one of Mzansi’s most beloved cultural exports. With acts like Hypoestes, Alinka, and Kyle Russouw, the phrase “NO DNA…JUST RSA” was brought to life through an electric showcase of homegrown talent, proving that the heartbeat of South Africa’s music is alive and thriving.

Alongside the rugby, DJ sets laid down the groove for the night’s Street Play, where Spotify MOM took over Harrington Street with a lineup that had everyone on their feet. RADAR artist Manana, Internet Girl, Ziggy4x, and Kay Faith set the tone, while HONEYMOAN and others kept the momentum going. Dee Koala led the way for the KHALTSHA SHOWCASE, with heavy hitters like Maglera Doe Boy and YoungstaCPT delivering exactly what MOM wanted—pure fire!

Sundae with MOM

The weekend concluded in true MOM fashion with the RANDS SUNDAE WITH MOM at Rands in Khayelitsha. A packed lineup of Rands resident DJs, alongside South African icon DBN Gogo, wrapped things up with high-energy performances. The event also featured a unique silent disco, offering partygoers a chance to immerse themselves in the beats while closing off a weekend that celebrated the richness of Cape Town’s creative and musical scene.

In short, MOM weekend was nothing short of epic, leaving Cape Town with memories of love, music, and the spirit of a city that knows how to bring people together.
