Ana Frango Elétrico – Electric Fish / Insista em Mim
Ana Frango Elétrico is a pioneering, dynamic, exciting key figure in Brazilian music’s bubbling new wave. ‘Electric Fish’ / ‘Insista em Mim’ (Release Date: September 8th, 2023) are the first tracks to be taken from the forthcoming album, ‘Me Chama Da Gato Que Eu Sou Saun’ / ‘Call Me They, That I’m Yours’. The album takes MPB, super-catchy pop, disco, indie, jazz-funk and fuses them with a breezy swagger.
At the age of 25 and with a hyper creative zeal, Ana Frango Elétrico (Ana Electric Chicken, in Portuguese), already has two superb albums in the discography. Ana’s second album ‘Little Electric Chicken Heart’ from 2019 was nominated at the 2020 Latin Grammys. It picked up support from Gilles Peterson, The Needle Drop (Youtube Channel), as well as a host of global media titles. Bala Desejo‘s ‘Sim Sim Sim’, which Ana co-produced, won a 2022 Latin Grammy award. Ana has been pushing contemporary Brazilian music forward, supporting friends, and producing other up-and-coming artists such as Sophia Chablau and Dora Morelenbaum. Furthermore, Ana‘s songs ‘Mama Planta Baby’ and ‘Mulher Honem Bicho’ received the WME ‘Best Music Producer’ award in 2020.
Sung in English, ‘Electric Fish’ is packed with elements of pure pop perfection, and with repeat listens you start to appreciate a deeper, more complex sound. The production is both brand new and retro, and nothing is exactly how it first seems. It was composed with Brazilian songwriter Bruno Cosentino, and features some of the most prominent Brazilian musicians, names such as Alberto Continentino (who plays bass with Caetano Veloso), Sergio Machado (drummer of Negro Leo’s band) and Guilherme Lirio (who plays electric guitar in Gilberto Gil’s band).
‘Insista em Mim’ sung in Portuguese, feels more reflective, with lush string sections rising and falling.
The release of these tracks heralds a sparkling new chapter in Ana’s ever-evolving career.
