The first Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc crafted by Cellarmaster Elunda Basson has stepped out in style expressing its timeless elegance with a refined new look.

“With the 2020 vintage I am finally able to share my first Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc sporting a brand new elegant look, and I could not be happier. Our terroir inspires me every day to create the best wine possible to share with wine lovers. I hope everyone enjoys it as much as I do,”.

Since joining Steenberg Vineyards in June 2019 as Cellarmaster and General Manager at the pinnacle of her career, Elunda has set her sights on securing Steenberg’s rightful place as a producer of top tier Sauvignon Blanc.

The vibrant Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2020 and the more nuanced Steenberg Rattlesnake Sauvignon Blanc 2019 are the first Steenberg wines to make their debut with new sophisticated labels that give prominence to Steenberg’s iconic swan and reflect the quality, elegance and esteem upheld by Steenberg Vineyards since 1682. The contemporary and timeless aesthetic of the new packaging will be extended to Steenberg Merlot and Syrah later this year.

Steenberg is synonymous with Sauvignon Blanc offering diverse wines of great complexity and individual expressions of the farm’s unique sense of place in the Constantia Valley.

Elunda’s zesty Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2020 embraces all the qualities akin to the oldest wine region in the New World. Ithypnotises with a seductive bouquet of fresh Cape gooseberries, nettles, capsicum and white blossom.

“This cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc has a sumptuous entry tied to an enduring length. The lifting acidity maintains a lively flavour on the palate with grapefruit zest and elderflower while maintaining a distinctive mineral core so typical of the Steenberg terroir,”.

explains Elunda

On the other side of the spectrum is the beautifully textured, lightly wooded Steenberg Rattlesnake Sauvignon Blanc. This multi-layered Sauvignon Blanc has a rich and alluring mouthfeel by virtue of the gentle fermentation of a portion of the wine in French oak and concrete egg-shaped vessels. It is an elegant and comforting wine, ideal for enjoying on cooler days.

The soon to be released Rattlesnake 2019 is set apart by its exceptionally creamy texture while simultaneously expressing a backbone of spicy acidity and a lingering mineral finish. Elderflower, the hallmark of top tier Constantia white wines, fresh asparagus and Cape gooseberry marry on the nose and palate enlivened by hints of capsicum, nasturtium and lime.

Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc 2020 will be released later in March and will be available at the cellar door at R145, while Steenberg Rattlesnake Sauvignon Blanc 2019 sells for R170.
