On Friday, 14 February, acclaimed jazz vocalist Ziza Muftić takes to the stage to present A Timeless South African Songbook—a heartfelt tribute to the composers who shaped the soul of local jazz.
Set within the intimate walls of chiesa di PAZZO LUPi, an event and cultural space renowned for its curated 90-minute live music performances, the night promises depth, emotion, and musical excellence. Recently nominated Best Jazz Venue/Club by the Mzantsi Jazz Awards, the venue offers secure free parking, food and drinks for sale (card payments only), and a warm, welcoming atmosphere perfect for Valentine’s night.
Ziza Muftić’s performance is a celebration of love in all its forms—romantic, reflective, and soulful. Audiences can expect melodies that make you cry, laugh, fall in love, and better understand the world, through compositions by legendary South African jazz figures including Khaya Mahlangu, McCoy Mrubata, Bheki Mseleku, Moses Taiwa Molelekwa, Themba Mkhize, Sydney Mnisi, Feya Faku, Marcus Wyatt, and more.
Croatian-born and Johannesburg-based, Ziza Muftić is a jazz vocalist, composer, pianist, and educator celebrated for her expressive voice and unique musical identity. Her sound blends Eastern European folk influences with American and South African jazz traditions, and she performs in multiple languages, including English, Croatian, Hungarian, Portuguese, isiXhosa, and isiZulu—adding rich texture and global depth to her performances.
Joining Ziza on stage will be some of Johannesburg’s finest musicians: Romy Brauteseth on upright bass, Peter Auret on drums, David Cousins on piano, and special guest Bra Sydney Ace Mnisi on tenor saxophone and flute. Together, they promise a beautiful evening of music, intimacy, and unforgettable moments.
