Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane: Presents ISIGQI Tour Johannesburg – 11 October | Untitled Basement

11 October @ 6:00 pm 12 October @ 12:00 am

Celebrated South African pianist, composer, and scholar Dr Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane is set to bring his latest album, ISIGQI – Live at the bird’s eye, to Johannesburg this October. The performance takes place on Saturday, 11 October 2025 at the iconic Untitled Basement, a venue renowned for its dedication to original, forward-thinking jazz and soul.

This tour marks Mashiloane’s first national journey with ISIGQI since its release earlier this year, offering audiences an opportunity to experience the music in its true essence — live, communal, and deeply connected. Supported by Concerts SA, a South African/Norwegian initiative backed by the SAMRO Foundation, the National Treasury’s Jobs Fund, and the Festival Enterprise Catalyst, the ISIGQI tour is both a cultural and musical celebration.

The Johannesburg Performance

At Untitled Basement, Mashiloane will present ISIGQI in its full, vibrant form. He will be joined by an exceptional lineup of musicians:

  • Sphelelo Mazibuko – Drums
  • Dalisu Ndlazi – Bass Guitar
  • Kagiso Ramela – Saxophone

Together, they will create a dynamic and soulful performance that resonates with the energy of Johannesburg, a city that has long inspired Mashiloane’s creativity.

“Johannesburg has always pushed my creativity, with its unmatched energy. I am excited to share ISIGQI with the city in this space that celebrates original music,”.

says Mashiloane

About ISIGQI

Recorded live at the bird’s eye in Basel, Switzerland, ISIGQI is a deeply reflective offering rooted in African identity, ancestral memory, and the rhythm of daily life. Each composition is a tribute to the people who have shaped Mashiloane’s journey — mentors, elders, family, and fellow musicians.

The album draws from Ubuntu philosophy, the vibrational essence of African drumming, and the harmonic languages of diverse South African traditions. Tracks such as “KwaZulu (Song for Madala Kunene),” “Internal Vibrations (Song for Tlale Makhene),” and “Isigqi (Song for Bheki Khoza)” honor legendary figures whose legacies continue to define South Africa’s soundscape.

Mashiloane’s vision with ISIGQI is to preserve the sounds of home — not as nostalgia, but as living, breathing cultural memory.
