15 December @ 7:00 pm – 16 December @ 9:00 pm
South African music icon Kabelo “Bouga Luv” Mabalane is celebrating three decades in the industry with a new album, For King and Country, and two exclusive live performances at Teatro Montecasino in Johannesburg this December. But beyond the milestone, the project signals something deeper: an artist embracing personal growth, faith and the freedom to create on his own terms.
The album arrives on 30 October 2026, just weeks before the celebrated musician takes the stage on 15 and 16 December for a live experience presented in partnership with Kaya 959. With his 50th birthday marking another significant chapter, Kabelo is bringing together the music that shaped his career and the perspective that defines him today.

From Pantsula Roots to a New Musical Identity
For generations of South Africans, Kabelo is more than a familiar name on a playlist. His journey through the country’s music scene has connected with audiences across changing sounds, cultural movements and different stages of life.
Now, he is exploring a creative direction he calls “Street Psalms” — a fusion of faith, street culture and personal experience that reflects the man behind the music.
Described as a “phume jardini” expression of faith, the sound brings together influences that might not traditionally occupy the same musical space. Rather than separating his spiritual journey from his cultural roots, Kabelo is exploring what happens when both become part of the same creative conversation.
“As for the new sound, it’s been crafted differently. It carries a certain wisdom that comes from where creativity, spirituality and art meet. So, it hits different,” .
he says
That evolution speaks to a wider reality for artists who have grown alongside their audiences: staying relevant does not necessarily mean chasing every new trend. Sometimes, it means becoming more comfortable with who you are.
Thirty Years Later, Authenticity Takes Centre Stage
There is something powerful about an artist reaching a major career milestone without treating it as a reason to stand still.
With For King and Country, Kabelo appears focused on making music that reflects his lived experience rather than simply recreating the sounds that first made him famous.
“Making music from an authentic place changes everything. When the music comes from somewhere real, people can feel it.”
For listeners who grew up with his music, the album offers a chance to reconnect with a familiar voice through a different lens. For younger audiences discovering him now, it presents an opportunity to explore the legacy of an artist still willing to experiment.
The bigger question is what happens when street culture, spirituality and artistic maturity meet without losing the character that made the music resonate in the first place.
A Live Experience Built for the Memories
The December performances promise to bring that evolution to life through a 16-piece musical ensemble, incorporating strings, choral elements, career-defining hits and selections from the new album.
Taking place at Teatro Montecasino in Fourways, Johannesburg, the 90-minute shows are designed to celebrate both the music and the personal journeys connected to it.

The second performance, on 16 December, falls on South Africa‘s Day of Reconciliation. That timing adds another layer to an experience built around shared memories and bringing different generations together.
For fans, the appeal lies in hearing familiar favourites reimagined alongside new material, with the scale and depth of a live ensemble creating room for a different interpretation of Kabelo’s catalogue.
Kaya 959 Joins the Celebration
Kaya 959‘s partnership recognises the connection Kabelo has maintained with South African audiences throughout his career.
“His 30 years in music speak to the power of staying curious, evolving with your audience and continuing to create work that means something,” .
says Tumi Rabanye, Head of Marketing at Kaya 959
That idea sits at the heart of the milestone. Legacy is not simply about looking back at past achievements; it is also about making space for what comes next.
With For King and Country, Kabelo is inviting audiences into that next chapter, where familiar cultural roots meet a more personal expression of purpose.
