A dazzling new adventure takes centre stage as Canal Walk marks over two decades of winter holiday magic
The magic is back at Canal Walk Shopping Centre this winter as it proudly celebrates 23 years of enchanting live theatre with a dazzling new production of Aladdin. Taking place in the Centre Court from 28 June to 20 July (excluding Mondays), this year’s show promises flying carpets, magical lamps, and unforgettable moments for families of all ages.
For more than two decades, Canal Walk has transformed its Centre Court into a vibrant theatre, captivating children and parents alike with heartwarming performances and colourful storytelling. This year’s production of Aladdin continues that tradition, reimagining the beloved Arabian Nights tale in a spectacular stage show packed with music, magic and meaningful messages.
A Beloved Story with a Modern Twist
Set in the lively streets of ancient Baghdad, Aladdin follows a spirited young dreamer whose life changes forever when he discovers a mystical lamp and an unpredictable Genie. Along the way, he learns the value of courage, kindness, and staying true to yourself.
Directed and produced by the acclaimed team at AM Productions, Aladdin is the brainchild of Fred Abrahamse and Marcel Meyer—who not only co-wrote the show but also composed the original music and lyrics. With a star-studded local cast including Anzio September as Aladdin, Mekaila Mathys as Princess Jasmir, and Onela Metuso as the scene-stealing Genie, the show promises energetic performances, charming humour, and visual delights for the whole family.
Theatre With a Purpose
In addition to providing magical entertainment, this year’s production supports a worthy cause. A portion of ticket and programme sales will benefit The Reach Trust, a Cape Town-based organisation focused on early childhood development and digital literacy in underserved communities.

What to Expect
Performances will run daily (except Mondays) at 11am, 12:30pm and 2pm. With each show lasting approximately 55 minutes, it’s the perfect bite-sized theatrical treat for young audiences. Tickets start at just R110 per person and can be booked via Webtickets.
To enhance the experience, snack combos, kid-friendly treats, and show programmes will be available at the venue. Seating is unreserved, so families are encouraged to arrive early for the best view.
