Sundowns’ Two-Star Kit Brings History Back to Life

Two Stars, One Powerful Legacy

For Mamelodi Sundowns, the latest jersey is more than something to wear on matchday. It is a visual reminder of how far the club has travelled — and a statement that the Masandawana story is still being written.

PUMA and Mamelodi Sundowns have unveiled the club’s 2026/27 home kit, and for the first time, two stars sit above the famous crest.

Those stars represent Sundowns’ two CAF Champions League triumphs, with the latest continental crown secured in May 2026. But rather than simply celebrating the present, the new shirt looks backwards to move forward.

1994 Gets a Modern Remix

The design draws directly from Sundowns’ 1994 era, when the club’s distinctive “shoeshine and piano” football was becoming part of its identity.

The colour combination will immediately feel familiar to long-time supporters: a yellow shirt, blue shorts and white socks.

There are also clever throwback details, including red PUMA logos and a thin green collar stripe inspired by the historic design. Subtle debossed yellow stripes give the modern shirt its own personality rather than turning it into a straight retro remake.

It is a smart approach to football fashion — nostalgia without getting stuck in the past.

From Mambush to the Next Generation

The strongest part of the “Shine on Masandawana” campaign is arguably the connection between generations.

Current and rising stars Grant Kenana, Thapelo Morena, Malibongwe Khoza and Kutlwano Letlhaku appear alongside Sundowns legends including Daniel “Mambush” Mudau and Hlompho Kekana.

That casting matters.

Mudau represents the generation associated with the original 1994-era identity, while Kekana was captain when Sundowns earned their first Champions League star in 2016. Now, a new generation gets to wear a shirt carrying both achievements.

For younger supporters, it turns club history from something found in an archive into something visible, wearable and relevant.

Football Shirt, Cultural Statement

Sundowns have increasingly become more than a football club in South African popular culture. Their colours, symbols and playing philosophy have become part of the visual language of local football.

The two-star shirt takes that cultural currency a step further.

It connects the memories of older supporters with a generation that experienced Sundowns’ latest continental success in real time. In that sense, the jersey becomes a bridge between eras — from the 1990s to 2016 and now 2026.

And yes, there is technology under the nostalgia.

The Authentic player version uses PUMA’s ULTRAWEAVE fabric alongside dryCELL and ThermoAdapt technologies for lightweight performance, sweat management and temperature regulation. The Replica version uses recycled polyester, giving supporters a more accessible way into the story.

When Can You Get It?

The new Mamelodi Sundowns home shirt is available from 31 July 2026.

The Authentic player version is priced at R2,399, while the Replica men’s and women’s shirts retail for R1,299, with the kids’ Replica priced at R1,199.

The collection is available through PUMA retail stores, PUMA.com, JD Sports, Totalsports, Sportsmans Warehouse and Studio 88.

For Masandawana, this is not just another new-season kit. It is two stars, decades of football culture and a new generation of supporters — all stitched into one unmistakably Sundowns statement.
