adidas Trefoil Returns for World Cup 2026 Away Kits

adidas has officially reintroduced its iconic Trefoil logo to the FIFA World Cup™ stage for the first time in 36 years, unveiling a bold collection of away jerseys for its partner federations ahead of the 2026 tournament.

Blending heritage with innovation, the new kits are inspired by the unmistakable aesthetics of 90s football culture — an era when the Trefoil last featured prominently on the global stage. The collection includes designs for 25 federations, with 13 nations already qualified for the upcoming tournament.

A Fusion of Culture, Style and Performance

Each jersey reflects the unique identity of its nation, incorporating elements of local culture, art, architecture, and history. From geometric patterns to stylised vertical lines, the designs reinterpret classic World Cup visuals in a modern, wearable form that resonates both on and off the pitch.

The return of the Trefoil — adidas’ symbol of originality — signals a cultural shift, bridging football performance with streetwear influence. These kits are not just built for athletes but designed to connect with fans and communities worldwide.

Engineered for the Modern Game

Beyond aesthetics, the jerseys are crafted with cutting-edge technology to meet the demands of elite competition across varying climates. Featuring adidas’ advanced CLIMACOOL+ materials, the kits are designed to wick sweat efficiently and keep players cool in high-temperature conditions.

Lightweight jacquard fabrics enhance mobility, while engineered stitching and ventilation systems ensure breathability during intense match play. The classic three stripes on the shoulders complete the look, combining tradition with technical precision.

Global Launch Meets Street Culture

To celebrate the launch, adidas hosted an immersive event in Los Angeles, transforming the Lower Grand Tunnel into a vibrant fusion of football, music, and street culture. The event featured performances by Kaytranada and Baby Keem, highlighting the brand’s deep connection to global youth culture.

Standout Designs from Top Nations

Several nations’ away kits stand out for their storytelling and visual identity:

Argentina: A striking swirling blue graphic inspired by traditional motifs, complemented by the iconic Sol de Mayo symbol.

Germany: Navy chevrons and retro-inspired hues reflecting decades of football heritage.

Italy: Tailoring-inspired patterns influenced by classic Italian suit design, finished with elegant gold detailing.

Japan: A symbolic 12-stripe design representing unity, with a bold central line reflecting the nation’s rising sun.

Mexico: Architectural Grecas patterns referencing traditional structures and cultural artistry.

Spain: Manuscript-inspired graphics celebrating the country’s rich literary history.
