13 December 2025 @ 12:00 pm – 14 December 2025 @ 11:59 pm
Makhelwane Festival 2025 is back, and this year’s theme, #WelcomeHome, brings us closer to the heart of where it all began. Rooted in the spirit of uMakhelwane—the belief that neighbours are family—the festival continues to honour and reignite the timeless township culture that built generations.

Taking place on 13–14 December 2025 along Poka Street in Orlando West, Soweto, Makhelwane Festival is more than an event—it is an authentic celebration of people, memory, connection, and community.

A Festival with Purpose
Makhelwane represents more than the joy of a street block or a weekend celebration. It is a platform that provides access, visibility, and opportunity for local:
- SMMEs
- Young creatives
- Township entrepreneurs

By bringing business, art, food, music, and community into the same space, the festival continues to open doors while maintaining the warm, welcoming energy that Soweto is known for.

#WelcomeHome – It’s Not a Campaign, It’s a Feeling
This year’s theme captures what it means to belong. The festival invites attendees to return to the smells, sounds, and flavours of home—to the streets that raised us and the culture we carry forward.

It is:
- The warmth of a neighbour’s smile
- The bass echoing through the streets
- The taste of shared meals
- The spirit of celebration that only Kasi can offer

There truly is no place like home.
Music That Sounds Like Home
Makhelwane Festival 2025 launches with a soulful and inspiring lineup featuring voices and talent from Soweto and beyond, including:

Expect music that heals, excites, and reconnects you to the heartbeat of the township.
