South Africa’s Limpopo province transforms into a harsh, apocalyptic testing ground in the latest spin-off of the hit survival series, Naked and Afraid: Apocalypse. Premiering on Wednesday, 24 September, at 20:05 CAT on Discovery Channel Africa (DStv channel 121), the series pushes twelve seasoned survivalists to their limits as they navigate some of the country’s most unforgiving terrains.
Set against a backdrop of ghost towns, cemeteries, vehicle junkyards, and abandoned mine shafts, contestants must scavenge scarce resources to endure both man-made hazards and the region’s natural dangers. Limpopo’s semi-arid climate brings scorching temperatures often exceeding 40°C, extreme drought, and unpredictable weather. Meanwhile, apex predators like lions, leopards, hyenas, elephants, hippos, and venomous snakes, including the deadly black mamba, make every step a risk.
This iteration of Naked and Afraid diverges from previous seasons by immersing contestants fully in the South African wilderness. Split into four teams, survivalists face a 35-day ordeal with minimal tools, no food, no water, and no clothing. Unlike earlier seasons, they will not be extracted at the challenge’s end, requiring them to navigate their own path back to civilization—a first for the franchise.

The cast includes returning veterans Steven Lee Hall Jr., Amber Hargrove, and Waz Addy, alongside newcomers from around the globe, including Miranda Adams, Teal Bulthuis, Frank Eytcheson, Wes Harper, Steven Kelly, Joseph Prouse, Kelly Roske, Russell Sage, and Alexa Towersey. Representing diverse locations such as Florida, Oklahoma, North Carolina, England, California, Hawaii, East Texas, and Australia, this marks the first season with so many international contestants experiencing South Africa’s natural and cultural landscapes firsthand.
With semi-nomadic indigenous communities historically thriving in this dynamic region, viewers will witness contestants applying a mix of traditional survival skills and modern ingenuity to withstand punishing heat, wildlife threats, and treacherous terrain.
Since its debut in 2013, Naked and Afraid has become one of Discovery Channel’s flagship series, and this South African installment represents the seventh spin-off, promising fans the franchise’s most intense and immersive survival experience yet.
