On 10 July 2025, Black Crown – SAB’s proudly African crafted gin and tonic brand – released a musical innovation unlike any other: Be Sure, an Afrobeats track composed entirely from the sounds of African botanicals. Just days after its release, the track has broken into the charts of 34 African countries, setting a new benchmark for creative music production and brand storytelling.

Produced using Plantwave sound device technology, Be Sure transforms the literal vibrations of plants like juniper, rosemary, and citrus—all key ingredients in Black Crown’s gin—into melodic soundscapes. The result? A genre-defying piece dubbed Afrobeatanicals that blends the organic rhythms of nature with the vibrant pulse of Afrobeats.
“We produced an Afrobeats track using Plantwave sound device technology with the bed music composed from the plants of African botanicals that are associated with our gin ’n tonics,” says Candice van den Bosch, Brand Director at Black Crown. “This experiment produced the first-ever Afrobeatanicals track.”
A Soundtrack for a Stressed-Out Nation
The inspiration behind Be Sure stems from the everyday grind experienced by many South Africans. According to a 2024 study by Stellenbosch Business School, South Africa ranks 69 out of 71 globally in terms of stress, with:
- 1 in 3 South Africans reporting daily work-related stress
- 2 out of 3 experiencing burnout
With this in mind, Be Sure was carefully crafted with wellness at its core. Unlike the fast-paced, high-energy stereotype often associated with Afrobeats, this track has a moderate BPM of 95-110, aligning with findings from the Journal of Music Therapy, which show that such tempos can reduce perceived stress by up to 46%.
“Through Afrobeatanicals, we advocate for our audience to ‘Put your Crown on Ice’. It’s about encouraging people to pause, breathe, and recharge.”
van den Bosch adds
Featuring Rising Star Ama Gaisie
The soulful vocals and lyrical prowess of rising artist Ama Gaisie take Be Sure to another level. Her voice adds depth and authenticity, perfectly complementing the botanical tones and echoing the message of mindfulness and restoration.
As of today, 18 July 2025, Be Sure continues to climb charts and spark conversations across the continent. Whether you’re winding down after a long day or looking to refresh your playlist, Afrobeatanicals offers a sonic escape that’s as innovative as it is soothing.
