SportsCast Africa Brings Free Sport to Hisense TVs

For South African sports fans, following your favourite teams and athletes can quickly become an expensive habit. Between streaming subscriptions, pay-TV packages and the challenge of finding reliable coverage, keeping up with the action is not always straightforward.

Now, SportsCast Africa is making that experience a little easier. The 24-hour free-to-air sports channel has launched on Hisense Smart TVs through the VIDAA operating system, giving viewers access to sports programming directly from their television’s channel guide — without paying an additional subscription.

The channel is available at channel 5208 on the Hisense Channels line-up for compatible, internet-connected VIDAA-enabled televisions.

Sport Without Another Monthly Subscription

The biggest attraction is simplicity. There is no additional app to download, no sign-in process and no new subscription to manage. Viewers can navigate to the channel through their TV’s existing interface and start watching.

For households already managing rising living costs, removing another monthly entertainment expense could make a meaningful difference. Sport remains an important part of South African culture, bringing friends, families and communities together around football rivalries, rugby fixtures and international competitions.

Making sports content more accessible creates more opportunities for people to participate in those shared moments without necessarily adding another bill to the household budget.

The service does require an internet connection, and availability depends on having a compatible VIDAA-enabled Hisense television.

What’s on the SportsCast Africa Schedule?

SportsCast Africa offers round-the-clock programming covering African and international sport, with a mix of news, highlights, magazine shows and live events throughout the year.

Here’s a closer look at some of its featured programmes.

Football Daily

A daily destination for football followers, covering the stories and developments shaping the game. It gives fans another way to stay connected to football beyond match day.

Soccer Highlights

For viewers who want to catch up on the action, this programme focuses on football highlights, helping fans revisit important moments and key talking points.

SportsWrap

A broader sports news offering designed to keep viewers informed about developments across the sporting landscape, with football featuring prominently in the channel’s programming.

Pole Position

Motorsport takes centre stage in this dedicated programme, catering to fans who follow racing, competitive driving and the personalities behind the sport.

Slam Dunk

Basketball fans get their own space through a programme focused on the game, extending the channel’s appeal beyond football and traditional local sporting favourites.

Cross Court

Dedicated to tennis, Cross Court adds another dimension to the schedule for viewers who follow the sport’s competitions, players and international action.

Beyond these regular shows, SportsCast Africa says live matches and events are added throughout the year. The precise live-event schedule will determine what viewers can catch as competitions unfold.

A Bigger Opportunity for African Sport

The partnership also highlights the growing role of connected televisions in how audiences discover content. Rather than requiring viewers to seek out a separate streaming service, SportsCast Africa appears alongside other free channels within the Hisense viewing experience.

According to Broadsmart Managing Director Yokow Quansah, the partnership places the channel where African sports fans already watch television. The company says Hisense devices already account for the majority of SportsCast Africa‘s connected-TV viewing, making the integration a natural next step.

For African sports broadcasting, accessibility matters. A channel that is easy to find and free to watch can help broaden the audience for different sporting codes, particularly when its programming extends beyond the competitions that dominate mainstream sports conversations.

The opportunity will depend on the depth of its coverage, the quality of its programming and the range of live events available to viewers.

Hisense Marks 30 Years in South Africa

The launch also coincides with Hisense South Africa‘s 30th anniversary. Since entering the market in 1996, the company says it has evolved from an importer into a local manufacturer.

Deputy General Manager Luna Nortje describes the addition of SportsCast Africa as a way of giving back to South African consumers who have supported the brand over the years.

The channel remains available on its existing distribution platforms while expanding its presence across connected-TV and free ad-supported streaming television (FAST) services in the region.

For viewers, the immediate benefit is straightforward: more sports programming available through a familiar screen, without another subscription to pay.

The bigger question is what comes next: if free, accessible sports channels can bring more people into the game, could connected TVs become an increasingly important platform for growing the audience for African sport?
