adidas Originals x Song for the Mute ADO07 Reimagines School-Day Style

adidas Originals and Song for the Mute have unveiled their seventh collaborative collection, ADO07, a nostalgic exploration of childhood style inspired by the imperfect charm of school uniforms, hand-me-down clothing, and the everyday wear-and-tear of youth.

The latest collection revisits a time when style was accidental rather than curated. Drawing inspiration from mismatched uniforms, scuffed shoes, and inherited garments, ADO07 celebrates authenticity through clothing and footwear that appear lived-in, practical, and instinctively personal.

Footwear Inspired by Schoolyard Memories

At the heart of the collection are two standout footwear silhouettes that channel distinct aspects of school life.

The reworked SFTM TOKYO takes cues from low-profile gym shoes commonly worn during school sports activities. Constructed from lightweight nylon and mesh, the sneaker features a crushed heel with an elasticated, ballerina-inspired design. Paint-splattered suede overlays add character, while deliberately distressed outsole detailing mimics the natural wear that comes from movement, play, and everyday use. Available in beige, blue, and black colourways, the design reflects the spirit of sports uniforms and youthful spontaneity.

In contrast, the SAMBA LX FREIZEIT embraces durability and structure. Inspired by the dependable school desk and the daily journey through hallways and playgrounds, the silhouette is crafted from premium brown full-grain leather and glossy black leather. Protective leather wrapping, reinforced welt stitching, and off-white suede Three Stripes create a robust yet refined aesthetic. One version features contrasting stitching for added visual interest, while another opts for a more understated tonal finish.

A Uniform Reimagined

The apparel collection continues the narrative of individuality shaped through time. Rather than presenting a perfectly coordinated wardrobe, ADO07 offers pieces that feel assembled organically and adapted through years of wear.

Cotton twill track jackets arrive softened and aged, featuring plaid inserts that allow the garments to fold into themselves for easy packing. Lightweight nylon hoodies offer a deliberately imperfect approach to weather protection, while slub-knit rugby jerseys showcase mismatched stripes and contrasting sleeves.

Elsewhere, sports shorts sit alongside pin-tuck school trousers, balancing athletic ease with traditional uniform codes. Distressed T-shirts feature faded finishes, paint splatters, and handwritten graphics, including an intentionally imperfect rendering of the adidas logo. Throughout the collection, muted greys, faded blues, washed browns, and chalky neutrals create a colour palette rooted in memory and nostalgia.

Accessories Complete the Story

ADO07’s accessories extend the collection’s narrative of everyday utility and lived experience.

A washed and waxed cotton cap features subtle tonal embroidery, while a softly structured canvas tote bag incorporates handwritten graphics reminiscent of names scribbled onto school bags. Designed to be used rather than preserved, these accessories embody the collection’s celebration of ordinary moments and personal history.

Capturing Everyday Life

The accompanying campaign continues the creative dialogue between Song for the Mute, creative director Stephen Mann, and photographers Ethan and Tom.

Shot within familiar suburban interiors, the imagery embraces a documentary-like approach. Subjects are photographed in relaxed, unguarded moments—sprawled across beds, leaning against walls, or caught between movements. The campaign evokes feelings of after-school freedom, youthful uncertainty, and quiet rebellion, perfectly reflecting the collection’s instinctive and imperfect design language.

Rather than appearing heavily styled, the clothing feels naturally integrated into the environment. Footwear and accessories are casually discarded or left behind, reinforcing the authenticity and lived-in spirit that defines ADO07.
