UPZ Completes His Powerful Comeback

South African house music heavyweight UPZ has officially completed his long-awaited return with the release of The Comeback, a vibrant new album that marks a bold new chapter in his celebrated career.

Best known for timeless house anthems like Pure Surprise, Believing, and Uzongilinda, UPZ stepped away from music and live performances between 2018 and early 2023. His return began quietly with a series of soulful and deep house singles before evolving into daring explorations of Afrotech and 3-step sounds.

The Comeback brings together standout tracks from this creative resurgence alongside fresh new material, delivering a rich and cohesive listening experience. The album features collaborations with artists including Beenie Man, Sofiya Nzau, Salvador, Mo-T, and Digital Sangoma. Fans can also enjoy refreshed versions of fan favorites Believing 2.0 and Disco Girl 2.0.

One of the album’s standout moments is “Uthando Luyabaleka,” a moody and emotional 3-step anthem featuring Dahl Hates Disco. The track blends bilingual storytelling, atmospheric synths, rolling log drums, and soulful vocals into a deeply immersive experience.

Reflecting on the project, UPZ shared that the hiatus allowed him to rediscover his sound and push beyond creative boundaries. The Comeback now stands as a powerful statement from one of South Africa’s most respected house music pioneers — reconnecting with his roots while embracing fearless musical evolution.

Fans can stream the full album via ORCD The Comeback and follow UPZ on Linktree UPZ Sounds.
