Noa Lauryn Says ‘Please Don’t Make Me Choose’ on silky neo soul gem

Noa Lauryn, a powerhouse of modern soul from Amsterdam, delivers a banging neo-soul single that feels like a celebration of female empowerment and will linger in your head. The hiphop beat takes you back to the 90s and the rhythmic vocal lines are giving Anderson Paak meets Lauryn Hill.

“Please Don’t Make Me Choose is about the female struggle to divide time and attention between family and career. I wanted to expresses the feeling of eventually having to choose between music and home life under society’s gaze. But sometimes we “want it all” and this song is a call not to judge me or any woman for it.”

She says:

Noa Lauryn is a soulful R&B artist with honest lyrics and feel-good energy. Inspired by artists like Jazmin Sullivan, Anderson Paak and Mahalia, she mixes acoustic and electronic sounds to create Neo-soul for the 2020’s. Her deep and powerful voice is carried by her Jazz and Hiphop rooted band, called The Incredibles. Live, they create an energetic show that is a whole separate experience from the records. Her sound varies from smooth R&B to Funky Soul.

Noa was born and raised in Amsterdam by a family of musicians. She grew up listening to the greats of (neo)Soul, like D’Angelo, Marvin Gaye and Lauryn Hill, and hanging out at her dad’s gigs from a young age (Manuel Hugas, i.e. Liquid Spirits). She studied Philosophy, but chose the musician’s path herself right after graduating. When she started releasing music in 2021, she got noticed immediately by Dutch national radio (NPO2, Sublime FM) and press LINDA Magazine (Angelique Houtveen), 3voor12 and Dansende Beren (BE). That year she also participated in traveling showcase festival Popronde.

Since then, she has been nominated “Best Talent” in the Sublime Awards, has released music with saxophone legend Candy Dulfer and has played on numerous stages throughout the Netherlands (i.e. Red Light Jazz, Haarlem Jazz & More, Melkweg RADAR, Vorstin Patat Met, Vondelpark Openluchttheater, Grachtenfestival), and some in Germany and the UK. Last year she released her debut album “coin collection” with shows in i.e. Paradiso and Luxor Live. The album has now reached over 6 million streams and her latest releases are played regularly on Sublime and NPO Soul & Jazz. For bookings, she is working with We Crave Music (Candy Dulfer & Rafael Nagelkerke) and she is signed with Vokall Records, in Amsterdam.

This is the second single leading up to her EP called “Always On Time”, to be released on 25th April. This project has come out of a yearlong burnout after the release of her debut album. On this record, she explores the concept of time in different ways. She reflects on our rushed society, sings about generational pain and makes a mockery of her inability to ever be on time. The overall feel of the record is uplifting and signals her newfound positivity to move on and make new music. Having played a couple of sold out London shows in January, this release will be accompanied by a new club tour in the Netherlands in May.
