MATH Wine Club Elevates Johannesburg’s Wine Culture

At MATH Restaurant, gatherings are shaped by intention, flavour, creativity, and connection. The MATH Wine Club captures this spirit, offering curated monthly evenings that bring together winemakers, industry enthusiasts, and Johannesburg’s vibrant creative community.

The next Wine Club event will be held on Friday, 12 December, at Waterfall Corner, with guests arriving from 18:00 for an 18:30 start. This edition welcomes back Morgenster Wines, whose previous appearance became one of the most celebrated evenings in the series. Their selection of wines will be paired with an exclusive four-course menu designed by Chef Neo, known for crafting dishes defined by balance, finesse, and thoughtful flavour combinations.

Designed to make wine culture both refined and approachable, the MATH Wine Club celebrates discovery through storytelling. Each tasting becomes a shared moment, and each pour sparks conversation. True to the MATH philosophy, wine appreciation becomes communal rather than exclusive—inviting seasoned connoisseurs and curious newcomers to explore side by side.

The experience also honours the rich legacy behind Morgenster Wines, a brand rooted in heritage, craftsmanship, and vision. The story begins with Giulio Bertrand, the Italian pioneer who purchased Morgenster in 1992—a historic farm with a 300-year-old legacy. His mission was to produce world-class Bordeaux-style wines and exceptional extra-virgin olive oils.

Guided by the belief that “Where there is quality, there is no compromise,” Bertrand partnered with legendary winemaker Pierre Lurton of Château Cheval Blanc and Château d’Yquem. With further support from the Olive Oil Institute in Perugia, he introduced 17 carefully selected olive varieties to South Africa, helping shape the country’s olive-oil culture.

Today, Bertrand’s legacy continues to thrive, and the MATH Wine Club proudly showcases Morgenster’s excellence in an environment designed for connection, exploration, and shared appreciation.
