First Look: Clementine Mosimane, Mondli Makhoba & Luyanda Zwane Join Spinners Season 2

London/Paris/Cape Town, 9 October 2025STUDIOCANAL has officially announced that filming has wrapped for Spinners Season 2, unveiling the first-look images from the highly anticipated follow-up to the award-winning African drama. The new season is set to premiere in 2026 on CANAL+, Showmax, and DStv platforms.

Two years after escaping the violent world of gang life, Ethan and his friends are now celebrated spinning stars in the city. Fame, love, and happiness seem within reach — until a brutal ambush, orchestrated by Ethan’s old gang, shatters their newfound peace. In desperation, Ethan turns to the powerful Maseko crime family for protection, but their help comes at a steep price. Trapped between two rival factions, Ethan must take control and navigate his own destiny.

Returning to the cast are Cantona James (Trompoppie) and Chelsea Thomas (Wyfie), alongside SAFTA winner Brendon Daniels (White Lies) and Blood & Water’s Dillon Windvogel.

New to the Spinners universe this season are some of South Africa’s finest talents:

  • Clementine Mosimane (How to Ruin Christmas), who stars as the matriarch of the Maseko crime family.
  • Mondli Makhoba (Shaka iLembe, The Wife), playing her loyal bodyguard.
  • Luyanda Zwane (Sibongile and the Dlaminis, Shaka iLembe) and
  • Aphiwe Mkefe (Nkululeko, Kites), as her ambitious children.

Fans can also look forward to a cameo from top female spinner Kayla Oliphant, recently featured in David Blaine: Do Not Attempt on National Geographic.

The eight-part CANAL+ ORIGINAL series is a co-production between Showmax and CANAL+, produced by Joachim Landau for Federation Middle East, Africa and Caribbean, and co-produced by Ramadan Suleman (Zulu Love Letter, Fools) for Natives at Large.

Season 2 is once again co-created by Joachim Landau and showrunner Benjamin Hoffman, with Jaco Bouwer (Gaia, Niggies) directing and Matthew Jankes and Sean Steinberg returning as head writers.

The first season of Spinners received international acclaim, selected at Canneseries and winning Best Foreign TV Series at the Shanghai International TV Festival’s Magnolia Awards, surpassing global hits like Succession. It also claimed three awards at Dakar Series and three SAFTA nominations, solidifying its place as one of South Africa’s standout television exports.

Since 2018, CANAL+ has produced 35 original African series across 11 countries, including Agent, Eki, Cacao, and Mami Wata — winner of the Sundance Cinematography Special Jury Prize. The company continues its mission to produce eight African series annually, strengthening its footprint on the continent’s creative landscape.

STUDIOCANAL will handle international distribution for Spinners Season 2, which promises to take viewers on another thrilling ride through loyalty, ambition, and the raw spirit of South African street culture.
