SUMMARY:Zanele Muholi Brings 20 Years of Faces Home
DESCRIPTION:There is something powerful about returning home with a story that started there. \n\n\n\nFor Zanele Muholi\, that homecoming arrives in Johannesburg this October as Sibaningi brings two decades of Faces and Phases back to the Market Photo Workshop in Newtown — the very place where the landmark portrait series began in 2006. \n\n\n\nOpening on Saturday\, 17 October 2026\, the exhibition arrives just days after Muholi receives the prestigious Hasselblad Award in Gothenburg\, Sweden. But while the international recognition is significant\, Sibaningi feels less like a victory lap and more like a return to the people and place that made the work possible. \n\n\n\nA Homecoming With History \n\n\n\nSibaningi\, an isiZulu word meaning “we are many”\, is a fitting title for an exhibition centred on visibility. \n\n\n\nFaces and Phases has spent 20 years documenting Black lesbian\, queer and trans lives across South Africa and beyond. Rather than reducing those lives to stories of discrimination or violence\, Muholi’s work has consistently insisted on something more fundamental: the right to be seen as whole human beings. \n\n\n\nThe portraits capture people living\, working\, loving\, ageing and changing. \n\n\n\nThat makes this exhibition particularly relevant in a moment when conversations around identity\, representation and belonging continue to shape South African culture. \n\n\n\nAnd there is an important full-circle moment here. Muholi studied at the Market Photo Workshop\, founded by David Goldblatt in 1989. It was within this Johannesburg creative environment that Faces and Phases began. \n\n\n\nTwenty years later\, the work returns with history behind it — and more history still being made. \n\n\n\nMore Than Photographs \n\n\n\nOne of the most compelling aspects of Sibaningi is the way it approaches the archive as something living. \n\n\n\nEarly portraits are placed alongside later images of participants\, allowing audiences to witness changes in gender expression\, relationships\, careers\, homes\, age and circumstance. \n\n\n\nThe photographs therefore become more than individual portraits. Together\, they form a visual record of lives unfolding over time. \n\n\n\nNew faces also enter the series\, reinforcing the idea that the archive is never truly finished. \n\n\n\nFor a younger generation navigating questions of identity and representation online and offline\, that idea resonates. What we document today becomes part of what future generations use to understand who we were. \n\n\n\nFrom Johannesburg to the World \n\n\n\nMuholi’s international recognition makes the Johannesburg exhibition even more significant. \n\n\n\nThe Hasselblad Award — regarded as one of photography’s most prestigious honours — comes with SEK 2 million\, a gold medal\, a Hasselblad camera and a solo exhibition at the Hasselblad Center running until April 2027. \n\n\n\nMuholi is the first Black queer African photographer to receive the award. \n\n\n\nYet Sibaningi deliberately brings that global moment back to Johannesburg. \n\n\n\nThe exhibition opens during Africa Pride month and forms part of the Muholi Art Institute‘s ongoing work around photography\, education and archives. \n\n\n\nOn opening day\, Muholi will speak at midday before the exhibition officially opens. Entry is free\, making the opportunity to experience two decades of South African visual history accessible to a broad Johannesburg audience. \n\n\n\nWe Are Many \n\n\n\nSibaningi ultimately feels like both an archive and an affirmation. \n\n\n\nTwenty years after Faces and Phases began\, the message remains clear: these lives were here\, are here and will continue to be here. \n\n\n\nBack in the city where the series started\, Muholi isn’t simply looking backwards. \n\n\n\nThey are showing Johannesburg how much has changed\, how much remains unfinished — and why documenting the present still matters. \n\n\n\nSibaningi runs from 17 October to 5 December 2026 at the Market Photo Workshop in Newtown\, Johannesburg. Entry is free.

SUMMARY:Africa’s Major Gets a New Sun City Energy
DESCRIPTION:The golf is getting a makeover\, but the bigger story is what happens when the final putt drops. \n\n\n\nThe 2026 Nedbank Golf Challenge in honour of Gary Player is returning to Sun City from 3–6 December with a radically transformed Gary Player Country Club\, a heavyweight international field and a tournament-week experience designed to blur the line between elite sport\, entertainment and destination culture. \n\n\n\nFor a younger\, experience-driven audience\, that shift is significant. This is no longer simply a weekend of watching golf. It is becoming a reason to travel\, stay longer and experience Sun City as a complete entertainment destination. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA New Course\, A New Challenge \n\n\n\nAt the heart of the transformation is a completely redesigned opening hole. \n\n\n\nThe new 470-metre par-four 1st hole climbs higher up the mountainside\, creating one of the most dramatic changes in the tournament’s 44-year history. The former first hole will instead become the Gary Player Country Club’s first dedicated practice range. \n\n\n\nThe upgrades don’t stop there. New professional tees\, refurbished bunkers\, an enlarged dam on the second hole and a newly opened waterfall view from the ninth are intended to challenge the world’s best while preserving the personality of one of South Africa‘s most recognisable golf courses. \n\n\n\nEssentially\, the tournament has refreshed its stage without losing its identity. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGlobal Stars Meet South African Ambition \n\n\n\nThe opening player announcement brings serious international credibility. \n\n\n\nTwo major champions\, Justin Rose and Bryson DeChambeau\, headline the first confirmed names alongside South Africa’s Casey Jarvis\, defending champion Kristoffer Reitan and Marco Penge. \n\n\n\nRose returns to Sun City after finishing runner-up in 2007\, while Jarvis arrives after securing back-to-back DP World Tour victories this season. \n\n\n\nFor South African golf fans\, Jarvis’ inclusion adds a particularly exciting layer. His presence places local talent directly alongside some of the biggest names in global golf. \n\n\n\nAnd with more players still to be announced\, the field could become even more compelling. \n\n\n\nWhen the Golf Finishes\, The Night Begins \n\n\n\nPerhaps the biggest lifestyle shift comes after the golf. \n\n\n\nSun City is expanding the tournament programme with four nights of entertainment\, dining and resort experiences\, turning the Nedbank Golf Challenge into something closer to a destination festival. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe entertainment programme includes a +LIVE+ Concert at the Superbowl on Saturday\, 5 December\, followed by The Final Putt! featuring Scorpion Kings and DJ Shimza at Sun Park on Sunday\, 6 December. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThat combination speaks directly to South Africa‘s social culture: sport during the day\, music and nightlife after dark. \n\n\n\nIt also makes the event more accessible to people who may not consider themselves hardcore golf fans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore Than Four Days of Golf \n\n\n\nThe real evolution of “Africa’s Major” is its understanding that modern audiences don’t simply buy tickets to events — they buy experiences. \n\n\n\nWith general admission\, grandstand seating\, the practice range\, Hospitality Village and resort entertainment all forming part of the wider offering\, Sun City is positioning tournament week as a full December getaway. \n\n\n\nThe golf remains the anchor. But the lifestyle around it could become just as important. \n\n\n\nTickets and hospitality packages are on sale from 18 August\, with the 2026 Nedbank Golf Challenge promising a distinctly South African mix of sporting prestige\, international stars\, music\, nightlife and Sun City spectacle. \n\n\n\nCome for the golf. Stay for everything else.

SUMMARY:Sean Paul Is Bringing Dancehall Heat to Pretoria
DESCRIPTION:There are some artists whose music doesn’t simply soundtrack a party — it becomes part of the party itself. Sean Paul is one of them. \n\n\n\nThis December\, the Grammy-winning dancehall superstar is bringing that unmistakable energy to Pretoria\, with a live performance at Sunbet Arena at Time Square on Friday\, 4 December 2026. \n\n\n\nAnd for South African fans\, this isn’t just another international concert. Pretoria is one of only three stops on Sean Paul‘s South African tour\, alongside Cape Town and Durban. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Dancehall Anthems to Mzansi Party Culture \n\n\n\nMore than 20 years after Get Busy and Temperature became global dancefloor staples\, Sean Paul remains remarkably relevant. \n\n\n\nHis catalogue has travelled far beyond Jamaica\, becoming deeply embedded in the soundtrack of parties\, clubs\, weddings\, festivals and late-night sessions across South Africa. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThat’s part of what makes this show interesting for a younger urban audience. Sean Paul‘s music occupies a space where generations overlap. Someone who discovered Get Busy when it first dropped can now experience it live alongside a younger fan who knows the tracks through playlists\, social media and contemporary collaborations. \n\n\n\nThe result is less nostalgia trip and more generational dancefloor reunion. \n\n\n\nPretoria Gets Its Moment \n\n\n\nFor Pretoria\, the show adds another major international name to the city’s growing live-entertainment calendar. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunbet Arena has increasingly positioned itself as a destination for major touring acts\, and Sean Paul‘s December performance strengthens that connection between Pretoria audiences and global entertainment. \n\n\n\nFor fans travelling from elsewhere in Gauteng — and potentially further afield — the limited number of South African dates also gives the Pretoria show an added sense of occasion. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe question isn’t whether the hits will get played. It’s how loudly an arena full of South African fans will sing them back. \n\n\n\nThree Cities. One Dancehall Icon. \n\n\n\nThe South African tour is presented by Blu Blood and Fire Water Earth Productions\, with 947\, KFM and East Coast Radio supporting the respective Pretoria\, Cape Town and Durban legs as official broadcast partners. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoors at Sunbet Arena open at 6pm\, with the show scheduled for 8pm to 10:30pm. \n\n\n\nTickets start at R750\, while Golden Circle tickets are priced at R1\,750. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor fans who have spent years hearing Sean Paul‘s voice dominate dancefloors\, December offers a chance to experience those songs in their full live setting — and perhaps discover why they have managed to survive more than two decades of changing musical trends. \n\n\n\nSean Paul Live in Pretoria takes place on Friday\, 4 December 2026\, at Sunbet Arena\, Time Square.

SUMMARY:Wonder Fest Is Ready for Take-Off Again
DESCRIPTION:Wonder Fest Is Turning an Airport Into Tshwane’s Biggest Creative Playground \n\n\n\nSome festivals are built around a stage. Wonder Fest is built around an idea. \n\n\n\nReturning to Wonderboom National Airport on Saturday\, 5 December 2026\, Wonder Fest is once again transforming an active airport into one of South Africa‘s most distinctive lifestyle destinations. Under this year’s colourful theme\, Where Colour Takes Flight\, the festival is positioning itself as more than just another music event—it’s becoming a celebration of the creative energy shaping modern Tshwane. \n\n\n\nAfter drawing more than 7\,000 attendees during its debut edition\, the festival is preparing for a bigger\, bolder return that blends live entertainment with fashion\, food\, design and community in a setting unlike anywhere else in the country. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore Than Music\, It’s a Cultural Statement \n\n\n\nSouth Africa‘s festival landscape continues to evolve. Audiences are no longer satisfied with simply watching performances—they want immersive experiences that reflect their lifestyles and identities. \n\n\n\nWonder Fest taps directly into that shift. \n\n\n\nInstead of separating music from fashion or food from art\, the event combines them into one vibrant experience where creativity becomes the headline act. The airport’s iconic tarmac provides an unexpected backdrop that reinforces the festival’s identity: unconventional\, energetic and proudly local. \n\n\n\nIt’s this fusion of culture and place that makes Wonder Fest feel uniquely Tshwane. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGiving Pretoria’s Creative Scene a Bigger Stage \n\n\n\nFor years\, Johannesburg and Cape Town have dominated conversations around major lifestyle festivals. Wonder Fest is helping rewrite that narrative by placing Pretoria firmly on South Africa‘s cultural calendar. \n\n\n\nThe event shines a spotlight on the capital city’s growing creative economy\, creating opportunities for local food vendors\, fashion brands\, artists and entrepreneurs to connect with thousands of festival-goers in one space. \n\n\n\nThat local-first approach gives the festival a deeper purpose beyond entertainment. It becomes a platform where emerging talent and established creators share the same runway. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nA Festival Designed for Expression \n\n\n\nThis year’s theme\, Where Colour Takes Flight\, feels especially relevant in a generation that values authenticity and self-expression. \n\n\n\nWhether it’s through personal style\, music\, photography or social content\, today’s audiences want festivals that encourage participation rather than passive attendance. \n\n\n\nWonder Fest embraces that mindset by creating an environment where every corner becomes a photo opportunity\, every activation tells a story and every attendee becomes part of the experience. \n\n\n\nIt’s a reminder that festivals today aren’t just events—they’re spaces where communities create memories together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe Countdown Has Officially Begun \n\n\n\nThe festival officially launched its 2026 campaign during Wonder Market\, where visitors were given first access to tickets\, sparking excitement ahead of December. \n\n\n\nWith artist announcements and lifestyle activations still to come\, anticipation is expected to grow over the coming months. \n\n\n\nFor anyone looking to close out the year with a celebration that captures the colour\, creativity and confidence of modern South Africa\, Wonder Fest is shaping up to be one of Gauteng’s standout events. \n\n\n\nTickets are now available through WebTickets as well as Pick n Pay and Boxer stores nationwide\, giving festival lovers plenty of time to secure their place before take-off.

SUMMARY:Gallo 100 Brings Black Coffee to Cape Town
DESCRIPTION:South African music history meets the global dancefloor as Gallo Record Company celebrates 100 years of African sound with a major Cape Town festival this December. \n\n\n\nA century of music deserves more than a birthday party. It deserves a dancefloor where generations meet\, memories come alive and the next chapter of African sound begins. \n\n\n\nThat is the idea behind Gallo 100: The Sound of a Century\, which takes over Cape Town’s Grand Parade on 15 December 2026\, with internationally acclaimed South African DJ and producer Black Coffee announced as the headline act. \n\n\n\nThe festival marks 100 years of Gallo Record Company\, one of the institutions whose recordings have helped preserve and shape the sound of South Africa. With additional artists still to be announced\, the event promises to connect the country’s musical past with the sounds pushing African music forward today. \n\n\n\n\n\nBlack Coffee Connects the Past to the Future \n\n\n\nFew contemporary South African artists represent the global journey of African music quite like Black Coffee. \n\n\n\nFrom building an international reputation in house music to performing for audiences across the world\, the Grammy-winning DJ and producer has helped bring South African electronic music into the global spotlight. \n\n\n\nHis place at Gallo 100 reflects a powerful connection between musical heritage and evolution. The sounds that once travelled through local communities\, family gatherings and neighbourhood parties now influence dancefloors across continents. \n\n\n\nFor a new generation of music lovers\, his headline appearance offers a reminder that South African music does not simply belong to the past. It continues to evolve\, innovate and shape global culture. \n\n\n\nA Century of Sounds That Shaped Generations \n\n\n\nFounded in 1926\, Gallo has been involved in recording and preserving music across an extraordinary range of genres\, including jazz\, mbaqanga\, isicathamiya\, maskandi\, gospel\, reggae\, pop\, rock\, soul\, house and kwaito. \n\n\n\nIts catalogue connects generations through artists whose influence reaches far beyond their original recordings. \n\n\n\nSolomon Linda’s Mbube\, Miriam Makeba‘s international legacy\, Hugh Masekela‘s musical activism\, Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s distinctive harmonies and Lucky Dube‘s reggae anthems all form part of the broader story of African music that Gallo has helped document. \n\n\n\nThese recordings are more than entries in an archive. They carry histories of identity\, creativity\, struggle\, celebration and belonging. \n\n\n\nFor young South Africans discovering older music through family playlists\, streaming platforms or cultural conversations\, Gallo 100 presents an opportunity to experience that heritage in a contemporary festival setting. \n\n\n\nMore Than a Concert: A Living Archive \n\n\n\nGallo describes the centenary celebration as a meeting point between a living archive and a modern dancefloor. The Cape Town event is expected to combine live performances\, archive-inspired storytelling\, festival production and curated cultural experiences. \n\n\n\nThe wider centenary programme also includes playlists\, documentary projects\, exhibitions\, educational initiatives and additional live performances throughout the year. \n\n\n\nAccording to Antos Stella\, CEO of Music Arena\, the milestone recognises not only the company but also the artists\, producers\, writers\, communities and music lovers who have carried African music across generations. \n\n\n\nThat broader recognition matters. Behind every iconic recording is a network of creative people and cultural influences that helped bring the music to life. \n\n\n\nThe challenge for a centenary celebration is to honour those contributions while making the experience meaningful to audiences who are shaping the future of music now. \n\n\n\nCape Town Gets Ready for the Celebration \n\n\n\nScheduled for 15 December 2026 at Grand Parade in Cape Town\, Gallo 100 will feature live music\, premium production\, food and bars\, VIP experiences and cultural moments inspired by the company’s archive. \n\n\n\nBlack Coffee is the first major artist announced\, with the full line-up and additional event details expected in the coming weeks. \n\n\n\nTickets are available through Howler. The event carries an 18+ age restriction. \n\n\n\nFor Cape Town‘s summer calendar\, the festival offers an opportunity to celebrate South African creativity on a scale that connects local musical history with international influence. \n\n\n\nOne hundred years of recordings have captured countless moments in people’s lives. Now\, Gallo is bringing those sounds together for a new generation to experience. \n\n\n\nThe question is not only which songs will define the celebration\, but which sounds today’s audiences will carry into the next century. \n\n\n\nOne hundred years. Countless songs. A new generation ready to make its own memories.

SUMMARY:The Groove Room Takes Cape Town by Storm
DESCRIPTION:What started as a dedicated stage at ULTRA South Africa is stepping beyond the festival gates. On 26 December 2026\, The Groove Room will take over Cabo Beach in Cape Town for its first standalone edition in the city\, turning a festival concept into a full-scale celebration of African electronic music culture. \n\n\n\nAnd the line-up makes it clear: this is not simply another December party. \n\n\n\nKelvin Momo\, DJ Kent\, DBN Gogo\, DJ Lag and a highly anticipated MÖRDA B2B DJ Zinhle set headline the experience\, joined by Thakzin\, JNR SA\, International Pantsula and NOT A SHE. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Festival Stage to Its Own Culture \n\n\n\nThe interesting part of The Groove Room’s evolution isn’t just the move to a bigger independent platform. It is what happened around the music. \n\n\n\nAccording to the organisers\, audiences began arriving for more than individual performances. The dancers\, fashion\, chants\, movement and shared energy created something that felt bigger than a stage within a festival. \n\n\n\nThat distinction matters in South Africa‘s increasingly influential electronic music scene. \n\n\n\nAmapiano\, Gqom\, house and Afro House aren’t isolated sounds. They exist within communities\, movements and spaces where audiences actively shape the experience. The Groove Room is positioning itself inside that intersection. \n\n\n\nAs Anything Goes CEO Shaun Duwe explains\, the concept developed its own identity as artists and audiences came together. \n\n\n\nNow\, Cape Town gets to experience that identity without it sitting inside another festival. \n\n\n\nA Line-Up Connecting Generations \n\n\n\nThe artist selection also tells a story about South African dance music. \n\n\n\nKelvin Momo brings the soulful\, atmospheric side of Amapiano\, while DJ Kent represents the enduring lineage of South African house. DBN Gogo connects with the generation that has helped take contemporary Amapiano into new spaces. \n\n\n\nThen there is DJ Lag\, whose Gqom sound carries the raw\, unmistakable pulse of Durban’s electronic underground. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe MÖRDA B2B DJ Zinhle set could become one of the day’s defining moments\, bringing together two major names from South Africa‘s dance music ecosystem behind the decks. \n\n\n\nWith Thakzin\, JNR SA\, International Pantsula and NOT A SHE also joining the programme\, the line-up moves between established influence and newer creative directions. \n\n\n\nCabo Beach Becomes Part of the Experience \n\n\n\nThe Groove Room is also promising to treat production as more than decoration. \n\n\n\nFor its standalone Cape Town edition\, the organisers say an ambitious technical production has been designed specifically around the experience\, with sound\, stage design and the physical environment working together. \n\n\n\nThat approach fits the bigger idea behind The Groove Room: the room itself is part of the culture. \n\n\n\nFrom late afternoon at 16:00 through to 02:00\, Cabo Beach will become a meeting point for different generations\, sounds and communities connected by South Africa‘s dance floors. \n\n\n\nOn Saturday\, 26 December 2026\, The Groove Room steps into a new chapter — and Cape Town gets its own room. \n\n\n\nTickets and tables are available through Howler.

SUMMARY:Piano People Takes Amapiano to Cape Town Beach
DESCRIPTION:Cape Town is set for a major Amapiano summer moment when PIANO PEOPLE ON THE BEACH takes over Cabo Beach on 30 December 2026. \n\n\n\nFollowing Piano People’s successful debut at the venue\, the event returns with a star-studded line-up designed to bring together music\, sunshine\, ocean views and the unmistakable energy of South Africa’s biggest sound. \n\n\n\nThe Scorpion Kings Lead the Charge \n\n\n\nHeadlining the Cape Town celebration are Scorpion Kings\, Focalistic and Dlala Thukzin\, joined by Scotts Maphuma & Bob Mabena\, Sam Deep\, W4DE\, Ca Ma Gu\, Not A She\, Notmah and Vvsami. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe result is a line-up built for the festive season — moving between soulful grooves\, dancefloor-heavy Amapiano and the sounds shaping South Africa’s current musical landscape. \n\n\n\nAmapiano Meets the Cape Town Summer \n\n\n\nThe choice of Cabo Beach gives Piano People on the Beach its own identity. \n\n\n\nWhile the Johannesburg edition brings the genre into the raw urban atmosphere of Old Park Station\, the Cape Town event swaps city streets for the shoreline. \n\n\n\nThink Amapiano\, ocean views\, summer energy and a sunset setting — all coming together just before the year ends. \n\n\n\nA Global Sound Comes Home \n\n\n\nPiano People has helped take Amapiano to audiences around the world\, but bringing the movement back to South Africa remains central to its identity. \n\n\n\nCape Town’s 30 December celebration is therefore more than a festive-season party. It is part of a wider cultural moment in which South African music continues to influence dance floors far beyond the country’s borders. \n\n\n\nFor anyone looking for a major Cape Town summer event in 2026\, Piano People on the Beach is shaping up to be one of the city’s standout year-end celebrations. \n\n\n\nTickets and tables are available via Piano People’s official ticketing platform.
