SUMMARY:Proudly SA Local Wine Expo Returns to Celebrate South Africa’s Finest Wines
DESCRIPTION:Wine lovers are invited to raise a glass to local excellence as the Proudly South African Local Wine Expo returns from 24 to 26 July 2026 at Prison Break Market. The three-day event promises an unforgettable celebration of South Africa’s rich wine-making heritage while creating valuable opportunities for local wine producers to grow their businesses. \n\n\n\nAs winter settles in and temperatures drop\, the annual expo offers the perfect opportunity to discover and enjoy some of the country’s best wines alongside fellow enthusiasts\, friends\, and family. \n\n\n\nMore than just a wine-tasting event\, the Local Wine Expo serves as an important access-to-market platform for Proudly South African members involved in wine production. Over the past three editions\, the expo has showcased 30 local wine brands per event\, with an impressive 74% of participating businesses being black- and female-owned. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe initiative aims to strengthen commercial opportunities for local producers while highlighting the significant role the wine industry plays in South Africa’s economy. According to SA Wine\, the sector contributes approximately R19.26 billion to the country’s economy through its activities and value chain. \n\n\n\nProudly South African Chief Executive Officer Eustace Mashimbye emphasized the importance of supporting local producers during a challenging period for the industry. \n\n\n\n\n“South Africa is ranked seventh among the world’s major wine-producing countries\, producing approximately 9.3 million hectolitres of wine in 2023. Despite our globally acclaimed wines\, the industry faces challenges\, including tariffs on exports to key international markets. Consumers can play an important role by supporting local wine brands and helping to build a resilient and sustainable industry\,”. \nsaid Mashimbye\n\n\n\nVisitors can look forward to much more than exceptional wines. The event will feature the exciting Shesha game activation\, a fast-paced local knowledge challenge with prizes up for grabs throughout the weekend. \n\n\n\nFood lovers will also be treated to a variety of offerings from Proudly South African members\, including delicious local cuisine and perfect wine-pairing snacks such as cheese\, crackers\, and biltong. \n\n\n\nBest of all\, entry to the event is completely free\, giving visitors more reason to explore new varietals and support local wine producers. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWine enthusiasts are encouraged to register early as spaces are limited. The event is strictly for adults aged 18 and older. Guests are also reminded to drink responsibly and make use of e-hailing services\, designated drivers\, or chauffeur services when attending. \n\n\n\nThe Proudly South African Local Wine Expo promises a weekend of exceptional wines\, local flavours\, entertainment\, and a shared commitment to supporting one of South Africa’s most celebrated industries.

SUMMARY:Where Wine\, Food and Community Meet
DESCRIPTION:More Than a Wine Tasting: MATH Is Building Johannesburg’s Next Dining Community \n\n\n\nIn a city where people are constantly searching for authentic experiences\, MATH Restaurant is proving that a memorable evening is about far more than what’s on the menu. \n\n\n\nIts latest MATH Wine Club edition\, taking place on Thursday\, 30 July at Waterfall Corner\, pairs the celebrated Thelema Wines with a specially crafted four-course menu by Chef Eric Mphela. But beyond the premium wines and beautifully plated dishes lies something even more valuable—a growing community built around conversation\, creativity and South African excellence. \n\n\n\nAs experiential dining continues to reshape Johannesburg’s hospitality scene\, events like these are becoming cultural moments rather than simple restaurant bookings. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCelebrating South African Craftsmanship \n\n\n\nFew wine estates carry the reputation of Thelema Wines. Nestled on the slopes of Stellenbosch’s Helshoogte Pass\, the family-owned estate has spent decades earning international recognition for wines that balance elegance with consistency. \n\n\n\nBringing that heritage into an intimate Johannesburg setting allows guests to experience one of South Africa‘s most respected wine stories without travelling to the Cape Winelands. \n\n\n\nEach wine has been carefully matched to a dish designed not to overpower the glass\, but to elevate it—creating an evening where every course reveals something new. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nChef Eric Mphela Returns to the Table \n\n\n\nChef Eric Mphela’s recent winter residency at MATH attracted enthusiastic diners who embraced his ingredient-driven approach to modern South African cooking. \n\n\n\nHis return for this edition of the Wine Club feels less like a guest appearance and more like the continuation of an evolving culinary journey. \n\n\n\nInstead of chasing trends\, Mphela focuses on balance\, allowing seasonal ingredients and thoughtful techniques to work in harmony with each wine. It’s a philosophy that reflects a broader shift in South Africa‘s dining culture\, where storytelling matters just as much as flavour. \n\n\n\nA New Kind of Social Gathering \n\n\n\nWine clubs have traditionally been viewed as exclusive spaces reserved for seasoned collectors or industry insiders. \n\n\n\nMATH is changing that perception. \n\n\n\nThe monthly gathering encourages discovery rather than intimidation\, welcoming curious newcomers alongside experienced wine lovers. Around one table\, creatives\, entrepreneurs\, food enthusiasts and friends share conversations that extend beyond what’s being served. \n\n\n\nIt’s this accessibility that makes the concept particularly relevant for Johannesburg’s young urban audience\, who increasingly value experiences over possessions. \n\n\n\nWhy Experiences Like This Matter \n\n\n\nAs South Africa‘s hospitality industry continues to evolve\, restaurants are becoming cultural spaces where food\, art\, business and community intersect. \n\n\n\nThe collaboration between MATH and Thelema Wines highlights the strength of local partnerships while showcasing the depth of South African culinary talent. \n\n\n\nFor guests\, it’s an opportunity to slow down\, connect with others and celebrate the craftsmanship behind every bottle and every plate. \n\n\n\nIn a fast-moving city\, that’s becoming one of the most luxurious experiences of all. \n\n\n\nThe MATH Wine Club featuring Thelema Wines takes place on Thursday\, 30 July\, with arrivals from 18:00 for an 18:30 seating at MATH Restaurant\, Waterfall Corner\, Midrand. Reservations are essential.
