SUMMARY:Bellville Business Expo 2026: Where Local Talent Grows
DESCRIPTION:South Africa‘s entrepreneurial spirit has never been short of ambition. From homegrown fashion labels and independent food producers to creative studios and emerging technology businesses\, local entrepreneurs continue to find ways to turn ideas into opportunities. The challenge is getting those ideas in front of the right people. \n\n\n\nThe Bellville Business Expo (BBEXPO) 2026 aims to help close that gap\, bringing the Northern Suburbs‘ business community together at Tyger Valley Centre on Wednesday\, 28 October\, and Thursday\, 29 October 2026. \n\n\n\nNow in its fourth year\, the expo is built around a simple message: Local is Better. And in an economy where small businesses need visibility\, customers and meaningful connections to grow\, that message carries weight. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBringing Bellville’s Business Community Under One Roof \n\n\n\nHosted by the Greater Tygerberg Partnership (GTP)\, in collaboration with better. together.\, the City of Cape Town and Tyger Valley Centre\, BBEXPO transforms a familiar retail destination into a meeting point for entrepreneurs\, consumers and aspiring business owners. \n\n\n\nVisitors can explore six themed Discovery Zones covering food and artisan products\, fashion and lifestyle\, creative industries\, professional services\, family experiences and emerging innovation. \n\n\n\nThe idea goes beyond putting businesses on display. It gives shoppers an opportunity to discover brands in their own neighbourhood\, meet the people behind the products and potentially build lasting relationships with businesses they might otherwise never encounter. \n\n\n\nFor exhibitors\, the opportunity is equally significant: direct access to potential customers\, increased brand visibility and the chance to develop partnerships in one of the Western Cape‘s established retail environments. \n\n\n\nAs GTP COO Nasmera Buckus explains\, supporting local businesses helps strengthen the wider economy shared by the community. \n\n\n\nFrom Browsing to Building Better Businesses \n\n\n\nBBEXPO 2026 also recognises that entrepreneurship requires more than a good product. Business owners need practical skills\, financial knowledge and the ability to adapt to changing customer behaviour. \n\n\n\nThat’s where the Level Up Business Lab comes in. \n\n\n\nThe free programme features workshops and expert-led sessions designed to help entrepreneurs tackle everyday business challenges. \n\n\n\nDay one’s programme covers practical artificial intelligence tools for small businesses\, access to finance\, and strategies for improving retail sales\, digital marketing and customer conversion. \n\n\n\nDay two shifts the focus towards turning interested shoppers into paying customers\, strengthening digital marketing and developing a brand identity that supports business growth. \n\n\n\nVisitors can also access an expert advice service and panel\, creating opportunities to ask questions and gain insights from experienced professionals. \n\n\n\nFor young South Africans exploring entrepreneurship\, these sessions offer a chance to learn about the realities of running a business\, from attracting customers to understanding the financial decisions that can determine whether an idea becomes sustainable. \n\n\n\nMeet the Makers\, Discover the Next Big Thing \n\n\n\nThe expo’s interactive experiences aim to make business discovery more engaging. \n\n\n\nThrough Meet the Maker spotlights\, 60-second entrepreneur pitches\, product demonstrations and giveaways\, visitors will get a closer look at the people and ideas shaping Bellville’s business landscape. \n\n\n\nThe Local is Better Passport Challenge adds another layer of participation. Visitors can complete activities throughout the expo\, including discovering women-owned businesses\, sampling products\, learning about sustainable business practices and voting for their favourite stands. Completed passports qualify for a chance to win expo prizes. \n\n\n\nBusinesses participating in GTP’s Level Up Programme will also exhibit\, including selected entrepreneurs from its Level Up Pitch Competition. \n\n\n\nThese features put emerging businesses in the spotlight while encouraging visitors to actively support the people building the local economy. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour Invitation to Support Local \n\n\n\nBBEXPO 2026 takes place on 28 and 29 October at Tyger Valley Centre in Bellville\, Cape Town. Entry is free\, but registration is required. \n\n\n\nTickets are available through Quicket: https://qkt.io/BBEXPO2026 \n\n\n\nWhether you’re an entrepreneur looking to grow\, a creative searching for inspiration\, or a consumer interested in discovering homegrown brands\, the expo offers an opportunity to connect with the people behind local enterprise. \n\n\n\nBecause supporting local is about more than making a purchase. It’s about helping businesses gain the visibility\, relationships and opportunities they need to grow — and keeping that momentum within the communities we share. \n\n\n\nPerspective Shift: BBEXPO’s real value lies in bringing opportunity closer to home. For South Africa‘s emerging entrepreneurs\, visibility can be the difference between a promising idea that remains unknown and a business that finds its customers. For the public\, it is a reminder that innovation doesn’t only come from major corporations. Sometimes\, the next business worth watching is already operating in your neighbourhood.

SUMMARY:FAME Week Africa 2026: Where African Creativity Meets Opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Africa’s creative industries are full of stories worth telling\, but getting those stories funded\, produced and in front of global audiences takes more than talent. It takes access\, meaningful connections and the right people willing to take a chance on an idea. \n\n\n\nThat’s where FAME Week Africa 2026 comes in. Returning to Cape Town‘s CTICC2 from 28–30 October\, the event will bring together 211 speakers\, more than 80 buyers and commissioning editors\, international producers and creative professionals for three days focused on the business behind Africa’s cultural influence. \n\n\n\nFor emerging filmmakers\, independent producers\, musicians\, fashion entrepreneurs and digital creators\, the opportunity goes beyond attending another industry event. It is about getting African ideas into rooms where decisions are made. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTurning African Creativity Into Global Opportunity \n\n\n\nThe creative economy offers young South Africans multiple ways to build careers\, from filmmaking and music production to fashion\, digital storytelling and content creation. However\, turning a promising concept into a sustainable business can be challenging when funding\, distribution and industry connections remain difficult to access. \n\n\n\nFAME Week Africa aims to bring those conversations closer together. \n\n\n\nWith distributors\, broadcasters\, financiers and international commissioning executives attending\, the event creates opportunities for creatives to pitch projects\, explore partnerships and better understand what audiences and content buyers are looking for. \n\n\n\nThrough its ConnectMe platform\, delegates can schedule meetings before arriving\, helping them approach the market with more than just business cards and good intentions. \n\n\n\nA major programme highlight will bring senior representatives from MultiChoice\, CANAL+ and STUDIOCANAL together to discuss commissioning priorities\, audience expectations and what producers need to understand when pitching to CANAL+ Africa. \n\n\n\nFor independent creators\, knowing how these decisions are made could be just as valuable as securing a meeting. \n\n\n\nFifty Years of Television\, Ten Years of Netflix \n\n\n\nSouth Africa‘s screen industry has changed dramatically over the decades\, moving from traditional broadcasting towards streaming platforms\, international collaborations and increasingly diverse viewing habits. \n\n\n\nIn 2026\, two major milestones provide an opportunity to reflect on that evolution: 50 years of SABC television and 10 years of Netflix in South Africa. \n\n\n\nThe SABC’s five-decade legacy highlights the enduring importance of local broadcasting\, while Netflix’s decade in the country demonstrates how South African productions can reach audiences far beyond their original markets. \n\n\n\nAccording to the announcement\, Netflix productions and partnerships have supported more than 8\,000 direct and indirect jobs over the past decade and worked with more than 30 local production companies. \n\n\n\nThese figures point to an important conversation for the next generation of creatives: how can South Africa continue developing homegrown talent while building businesses capable of competing internationally? \n\n\n\nThe challenge is not simply producing more content. It is ensuring that creators have the skills\, resources\, rights and commercial opportunities to benefit from the stories they bring to life. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAfrican Stories\, International Partnerships \n\n\n\nFrance takes centre stage as FAME Week Africa’s 2026 Destination Country\, opening another avenue for collaboration between African and European creative industries. \n\n\n\nFrench producers\, buyers and distributors will connect with African counterparts to explore co-productions\, distribution and creative exchange. The programme begins on 27 October with French Night at Cape Town’s Homecoming Centre\, featuring the African premiere of Le Fantôme de l’Opéra. \n\n\n\nFor South African filmmakers and producers\, international partnerships can create access to new funding opportunities\, technical expertise and distribution networks. The real opportunity\, however\, lies in building collaborations that preserve the cultural identity of African stories rather than simply adapting them for overseas markets. \n\n\n\nThe event will also feature familiar South African creative voices\, including Kim Jayde\, Thando Thabethe\, Thabo Rametsi\, Flavia Motsisi and Mimi Bartels. Meanwhile\, the African Women in Entertainment Breakfast\, powered by RAY Content Hub\, will feature a keynote address by Lorcia Cooper. \n\n\n\nMore Than Film: A Creative Economy in Motion \n\n\n\nFAME Week Africa extends beyond traditional screen industries\, recognising how music\, fashion\, food and digital culture increasingly intersect. \n\n\n\nMuziki Africa will explore music rights\, royalties\, synchronisation\, artificial intelligence and monetisation\, while the African Fashion Forum will focus on the business and future of African fashion. Tastes + Threads will bring fashion\, food\, music and storytelling together under the theme Threads of Africa: From the Streets to the World. \n\n\n\nThe Inclusive Lens Awards\, powered by Earcandy and hosted by Siv Ngesi\, will also recognise representation of LGBTQ+ communities\, people with disabilities and children on screen. \n\n\n\nAfter the main programme\, the FAME Shorts Film Festival will take over The Rockefeller Hotel from 30 October to 1 November\, presenting 36 films across three days. \n\n\n\nTogether\, these initiatives reflect a broader creative landscape in which culture is not just entertainment. It is also intellectual property\, employment\, entrepreneurship and an opportunity to shape how African communities are represented. \n\n\n\nThe Next Opportunity Could Start With One Conversation \n\n\n\nFAME Week Africa 2026 takes place at CTICC2 in Cape Town from 28–30 October\, with the French Night programme beginning on 27 October and the FAME Shorts Film Festival running from 30 October to 1 November. \n\n\n\nFor creatives hoping to turn an idea into a viable project\, the most valuable takeaway may be understanding how the industry works\, identifying the right collaborators and learning what it takes to move from concept to commission. \n\n\n\nThe speakers and buyers will be there\, but opportunity rarely comes from simply being in the room. It comes from arriving prepared\, asking better questions and knowing the value of your work. \n\n\n\nInterested in attending? Registration is available through the official FAME Week Africa website. \n\n\n\nFor Africa’s next generation of storytellers\, the question is no longer whether the continent has stories worth sharing. It is how those stories can travel further\, create sustainable opportunities and remain authentically African along the way.
