SUMMARY:Wowo Mndau Quartet Brings Contemporary South African Jazz to Melville This June
DESCRIPTION:Johannesburg’s jazz scene continues evolving through a new generation of musicians who understand how to honour tradition while still pushing the music forward. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAmong them is pianist Wowo Mndau\, whose upcoming performance at chiesa di PAZZO LUPi on Saturday\, 6 June 2026 promises an evening rooted in both heritage and contemporary expression. \n\n\n\nMndau’s journey with music began at home after being introduced to the piano by his late uncle\, a relationship with sound that eventually led him to study music theory at UNISA\, where his passion for jazz deepened even further. \n\n\n\nToday\, his playing reflects both technical discipline and emotional instinct\, moving naturally between delicate piano phrasing\, layered harmonies\, and moments of powerful improvisation. \n\n\n\nFor this performance\, he will be joined by Charles Visser\, Nathaniel Swarts\, and Nathan Swarts\, forming a quartet built around interplay\, musical sensitivity\, and the raw beauty of live instrumentation. \n\n\n\nIn a city where audiences are increasingly craving authentic cultural experiences\, the setting at chiesa di PAZZO LUPi adds another layer to the evening. The venue’s intimate design\, warm atmosphere\, and close listening environment allow audiences to experience jazz in a way that feels personal rather than performative. \n\n\n\nWith heaters warming the outdoor spaces and comfort food available throughout the evening\, the performance is expected to feel less like a formal concert and more like a gathering built around music\, conversation\, and atmosphere. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nhttps://www.quicket.co.za/events/369880-wowo-mndau-quartet/#
