DESCRIPTION:The West Rand is getting ready to lace up again. On Saturday\, 22 August 2026\, Clearwater Mall will become the starting point for thousands of runners as its annual road race returns for its 12th edition. \n\n\n\nBut this isn’t simply another event on Gauteng’s busy running calendar. The race has grown into a community fixture — one where serious athletes\, weekend runners and families can all share the same starting line. \n\n\n\nThis year\, organisers are aiming higher: 3\,500 runners. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLast year’s race attracted 2\,863 entries\, setting the stage for what could be the biggest edition yet. \n\n\n\nThree Distances\, One Starting Line \n\n\n\nThe event continues its partnership with Panorama Running Club and offers three distances designed to bring different parts of the running community together. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 21km half marathon and 10km race are geared towards more experienced runners\, while the 5km fun run takes a more accessible approach\, welcoming families and children from the age of five when accompanied by an adult. \n\n\n\nThat mix is important. \n\n\n\nRunning culture in South Africa isn’t only about chasing personal bests. It’s also about community\, routine and finding reasons to get active together. The 5km gives younger participants and casual runners an opportunity to experience the atmosphere without needing to be seasoned athletes. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe 21km and 10km races start at 7am\, followed by the 5km at 7.15am. \n\n\n\nMore Than Just a Medal \n\n\n\nEvery finisher receives a medal\, but competitive runners have plenty more to chase. \n\n\n\nPrize money is available across age categories for the 21km and 10km\, while the 5km also rewards its top performers. \n\n\n\nThen there’s the King and Queen of the Mountain challenge. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe fastest male and female runners in the 21km and 10km races can compete for additional rewards\, including Clearwater Mall gift vouchers and course-record prizes. \n\n\n\nIt adds another layer of competition to a race that is already attracting attention for its growing field. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBuilding a Bigger Running Community \n\n\n\nThe push towards 3\,500 participants says something about the changing role of community sporting events. \n\n\n\nA mall might traditionally be associated with shopping\, entertainment and dining\, but events such as this transform the space into something different — a meeting point for movement\, local connection and shared experiences. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor young Gauteng residents especially\, that community element can be just as valuable as the finish time. \n\n\n\nWhether you’re chasing a personal best\, introducing a child to running or simply looking for a reason to get moving\, Clearwater Mall‘s 2026 race offers multiple ways to get involved. \n\n\n\nEntries close at midnight on Tuesday\, 18 August 2026\, with in-person entries also available at Entrance 5 on 20 and 21 August. \n\n\n\nThe road is waiting.
