Time Out South Africa Appoints Aisha Mohamed as Managing Director

Time Out South Africa has announced the appointment of Aisha Mohamed as its new Managing Director, marking a significant step in the brand’s strategic growth and expansion across the country.

The globally recognised lifestyle and culture brand, Time Out Group, launched in South Africa in early 2025 through a partnership with Kagiso Connect. Since its introduction, the platform has focused on showcasing the best food, culture, and experiences in major urban centres including Cape Town and Johannesburg, with plans already underway to expand into additional cities nationwide.

Mohamed brings more than 15 years of senior leadership experience spanning media, entertainment, broadcasting, and marketing. Her career has placed her at the intersection of culture, creativity, and commerce, where she has successfully led audience growth initiatives, digital transformation projects, and major commercial partnerships.

She has previously held senior roles at major industry players including Sony Music Entertainment Africa, South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC TV), 5FM, and Viacom. Across these platforms, Mohamed has overseen large-scale budgets while building culturally relevant and commercially sustainable media ecosystems.

Nick Grubb, CEO of Kagiso Connect, said Mohamed’s leadership arrives at a pivotal moment for the brand’s local growth.

“Aisha brings the strategic clarity, commercial acumen, and cultural understanding needed to lead Time Out into its next phase of growth and unlock the full potential of the brand in South Africa. She has a strong track record of delivering audience-first growth strategies and building high-performing teams, and we’re excited about the leadership and energy she brings to the business,”.

As Managing Director, Mohamed will guide the strategic direction of Time Out South Africa, with a strong emphasis on editorial excellence, audience engagement, commercial partnerships, and marketing strategies designed to strengthen the brand’s presence in the local market.

Speaking on her new role, Mohamed expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to lead one of the world’s most influential cultural platforms.

“Time Out is one of the world’s most respected cultural authorities, and the opportunity to lead its next chapter in South Africa is both an honour and an exciting responsibility. Our cities are dynamic, creative, and globally competitive, and Time Out is uniquely positioned at the intersection of culture and experience. I’m looking forward to working with the team to deepen audience engagement and build strong, sustainable partnerships,”.

Kagiso Connect, which also operates leading radio stations Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio, as well as financial advisory platform Vouch, recently rebranded from Kagiso Media Radio. As part of this transition, Anthea Carstens—who oversaw the successful launch of Time Out South Africa—will now focus on the broader Kagiso Connect Publishing portfolio.

Grubb praised Carstens for her leadership during the brand’s initial rollout, noting that she built a strong editorial foundation and assembled a passionate team that delivered on the objectives of the launch phase.

With nearly six decades of global expertise, Time Out connects audiences in more than 350 cities worldwide, curating the best in food, culture, and city experiences through trusted local voices. Under Mohamed’s leadership, the South African edition is set to strengthen its influence while expanding its reach across the country’s vibrant urban landscapes.
