Nespresso SA Presents “MATRIARCHS” – An Artful Tribute to Women & Sustainability
In a striking celebration of Women’s Month, Nespresso South Africa has unveiled “MATRIARCHS,” a bold and heartfelt artistic collaboration with acclaimed mixed-media artist Pam Friedman. Hosted at the Candice Berman Gallery in Rosebank, Johannesburg, the exhibition runs through August 2025 and serves as a resonant tribute to feminine resilience, transformation, and sustainability.

At the heart of “MATRIARCHS” is a call to reimagine what it means to start over. Through stunning artworks crafted entirely from upcycled Nespresso capsules, Pam Friedman redefines waste as a medium for healing and renewal. Each piece is not only a visual masterpiece but also a testament to the layered, evolving experience of womanhood.
“Reinvention is not just a necessity – it is a feminine superpower. This work is about emotional recycling, about what we discard and what we choose to keep, and how beauty often emerges from the remnants.”
says Friedman, reflecting on her year-long creative journey with Nespresso
The exhibition’s launch on 31 July 2025 welcomed an exclusive guest list to an immersive evening featuring a moving short film that delved into Pam’s creative process and Nespresso’s sustainability commitments. Opening remarks by Keabetswe Legodi, Social Media and PR Specialist at Nespresso South Africa, perfectly captured the spirit of the event:
“This collaboration is a tangible expression of our values. At Nespresso, we are committed to reducing waste and uplifting women, not only through our products but through partnerships that challenge and inspire. This is what regeneration looks like: giving voice to artists, meaning to materials, and power to purpose.”
More than just an art showcase, “MATRIARCHS” symbolises a broader cultural shift. It reflects Nespresso’s global vision to embed sustainability into human, emotional, and artistic narratives. With its Gender Strategy for 2030, the brand takes a transformative approach to gender equity—moving beyond awareness to reshape systems and foster leadership among women across all sectors.

Pam’s work acts as a mirror to this mission. Her pieces invite viewers to reflect on the small, quiet revolutions women undertake every day—balancing roles, rediscovering self, and nurturing their worlds with unwavering care and creativity.
