Mzansi Magic Celebrates 15 Years of Iconic Storytelling with Star-Studded Documentary Tribute
Mzansi Magic, South Africa’s home of unforgettable local entertainment, is celebrating 15 powerful years of storytelling, culture, and talent with a two-part anniversary documentary. Viewers can catch Part 1 on the Mzansi Pop-Up channel (DStv Channel 196) on Saturday, 29 July 2025 at 18:00, and again on Sunday, 30 July at 17:00 on Mzansi Magic (DStv Channel 161). Part 2 will air on Saturday, 2 August and Sunday, 3 August at the same times on their respective channels.
From its humble beginnings to becoming a household name, Mzansi Magic has been a launchpad for the country’s most celebrated stars and game-changing productions. This documentary honours the legacy, talent, and cultural impact of the channel — a tribute to the people behind the magic and the millions of South Africans who made it their own.

The documentary features intimate reflections and exclusive interviews with stars who helped shape the channel’s evolution, including:
- Siyabonga Twala – Revered for his role as Mpiyakhe Zungu in Isibaya, one of Mzansi Magic’s earliest and most influential dramas.
- Lorcia Cooper – A powerhouse from Lockdown, sharing her experience in breaking new ground for female-led narratives.
- ProVerb – The face of Idols SA, reflecting Mzansi Magic’s investment in music and talent discovery.
- Dawn Thandeka King – A pillar of local drama with unforgettable performances in Diepcity.
- Lawrence Maleka – From Clash of the Choirs to becoming one of SA’s top presenters and actors.
- Mandla Ngcongwane – A creative visionary behind some of the channel’s boldest productions.
Adding depth to the retrospective are former channel directors Yolisa Phahle, Reneilwe Sema, and Nomsa Philiso (now CEO of General Entertainment), as well as a heartfelt tribute to the late Nkateko “NK” Mabaso, whose leadership and vision helped Mzansi Magic become a cultural powerhouse.
More than just a retrospective, the Mzansi Magic 15th Anniversary Documentary is a love letter to South African storytelling—to the characters we grew up with, the stories that shaped a generation, and the people who brought them to life.
