Proudly South African is once again making its way to sunny Durban for the 129th edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban July, South Africa’s premier horse racing and lifestyle spectacle. Set for Saturday, 5 July 2025, at the iconic Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, this vibrant event promises to celebrate local flair in all its glory—from fashion to economic upliftment.
As a proud partner for the second year running, Proudly South African is determined to shine a spotlight on the incredible economic ripple effect of this much-anticipated event on the eThekwini region. With over 40,000 attendees in 2024, Durban’s hotels, restaurants, and small businesses saw a dramatic rise in business, contributing R717 million to the city’s GDP through the main event alone. When accounting for parallel festivities, the total GDP impact reached an astonishing R6.6 billion, creating over 11,000 jobs.
A Celebration of Local Fashion
While the thoroughbreds may steal the show on the racecourse, it’s the bold and beautiful fashion that captures just as much attention. This year’s theme, “Marvels of Mzansi,” celebrates the creativity and vibrance of local designers. Fashion enthusiasts are encouraged to Swenka Nge Local—dress proudly in South African designs and show off their unique interpretations of the theme.
Proudly South African’s fashion police will be on-site in full force, asking the iconic question: “Are you wearing local?” The Home of Local MC will host engaging fashion commentary, while Proudly SA’s Chief Marketing Officer, Happy MaKhumalo Ngidi, will serve on the judging panel for the fashion awards. One lucky winner will walk away with R20,000 worth of local fashion in partnership with Proudly South African and a featured designer.

Proudly SA will also be setting up its signature Home of Local activation, a visually rich, nostalgic-meets-modern experience showcasing local interior flair and cultural pride. Adorned in vintage décor and contemporary South African design, the space reflects the spirit of local is lekker while fostering national pride.
