Shaka iLembe Celebrates Swati Royalty and Culture in Season 2

MZANSI MAGIC’S POWERFUL HISTORICAL DRAMA INTRODUCES INGWENYAMA SOMHLOLO, INDLOVUKATI LOJIBA AND THE NGWANE

Viewers across Southern Africa are witnessing a powerful cultural expansion as Shaka iLembe, Mzansi Magic’s acclaimed historical drama, introduces the royal Swati lineage in its second season. Episode 2, which aired on Sunday, June 22 at 8PM, marked the much-anticipated arrival of Ingwenyama Somhlolo, Indlovukazi Lojiba, and the Ngwane royal house, immersing audiences in the proud traditions and untold stories of Eswatini.

“This is a powerful reminder to all Africans that our histories are deeply intertwined. Through storytelling, we not only honour our past, but also showcase the extraordinary beauty of our cultures to the world.”

says Nomsa Philiso, CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice

A Milestone for African Storytelling

After capturing the continent in Season 1 — winning 12 SAFTAs and setting a new standard for historical drama — Shaka iLembe continues its legacy by expanding the narrative to highlight Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage. This important new arc is supported by the blessing of His Majesty King Mswati III, who met with Bomb Productions in 2024 to ensure a respectful and authentic portrayal of Swati history.

“We were honoured to meet His Majesty, who shared powerful anecdotes about Swati history and Ingwenyama Somhlolo.”

shares Executive Producer Desiree Markgraaff

Prince Sicelo, serving as cultural advisor, played a key role in casting and guidance:

“All Swati roles were cast in Eswatini. We’re proud to showcase incredible talent like Setsabile Masina Sithole as Queen Lojiba, Sikhanyiso Sithole as Princess Hletjiwe, and Ayanda Ginindza as Ingwenyama Somhlolo.”

The cast also includes Thobejane Magagula as Prince Ngemu and Alex Fakudze as Umnganiwemakhosi.

A Cultural Celebration Beyond the Screen

Swati culture is not only portrayed but deeply celebrated on and off set. The haunting vocals of Lanyamane (Miriam Dlamini) and a troupe of Swati dancers added texture and spirit to key scenes filmed during the winter of 2024. In 2025, Miriam returned to collaborate with series composer Philip Miller and celebrated Zulu vocalist Mbuso Khoza, deepening the series’ sonic landscape.
