NFVF Opens Applications for Marketing and Distribution Funding Cycle 1 for FY 2025/26

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, has officially opened the call for Marketing and Distribution Cycle 1 funding applications for the 2025/26 financial year. The submission window runs from 12 May 2025 to 02 June 2025.

The NFVF was established to ensure the equitable growth of the South African film and video industry. Through its Marketing and Distribution funding stream, it supports independent South African filmmakers and local distributors in marketing and distributing their films across various platforms, including theatrical, broadcast, and streaming services.

Who Can Apply?

This funding is intended for:

  • Independent South African filmmakers and distributors
  • Projects in the form of Feature Films or TV formats

Note: Marketing and Distribution funding is not available for Tier 3 applicants.

Eligibility Tiers:

  • Tier 1: Filmmakers with at least three successful and commercially viable Feature Films, TV Films, or Documentaries.
  • Tier 2: Filmmakers with one or two Feature Films, TV Films or Documentaries, or two or three Short Films and/or Commercials.
  • Tier 3: Not applicable for this funding call.

Key Application Requirements

Applicants must submit:

  • A synopsis and genre/format details
  • 1–2 page motivation letter
  • Target audience breakdown (demographics + psychographics)
  • Comprehensive distribution, sales, marketing, and audience development plans
  • Letter of intent from a distributor
  • Release timeline and exhibitor confirmation
  • FPB certificate
  • Certified ID copy (within 6 months)
  • Tax clearance or compliance pin
  • BBBEE certificate/affidavit
  • Company registration and bank confirmation letter (dated within 3 months)
  • Updated CV and profiles of key creatives
  • Chain of title documents
  • Press clippings or articles related to the film
  • Projected ROI timeline for the NFVF
