Dr Sibusiso Mash Mashiloane’s ISIGQI Captures the Soul of South African Jazz, Live from Switzerland
Renowned South African jazz pianist and composer Dr Sibusiso “Mash” Mashiloane presents ISIGQI, Live at the Bird’s Eye — a powerful new live album recorded in Basel, Switzerland. The album is a vibrant sonic journey that blends deep-rooted African rhythms with the nuanced complexity of contemporary jazz.
ISIGQI is more than just a performance; it’s a sonic tribute to township life, ancestral wisdom, and African communal values. The title, meaning “pulse” or “rhythm” in isiZulu, reflects Mashiloane’s ongoing exploration of the vibrational ties between music, identity, and the idea of home. Each track unfolds like a story, layered with texture and intent, celebrating the people and places that shaped his artistic voice.

The performance showcases Mashiloane’s mastery at the piano, as he weaves together improvisation and memory, honouring key figures in his life and musical journey. Rooted in tradition yet boldly modern, ISIGQI invites listeners into a deeply reflective and emotionally resonant space — one where jazz becomes a vessel for connection, healing, and celebration.
