RUBICON COLLECTION INSPIRED BY MEDLEY OF NATURE
This year, Rubicon has unveiled a breathtaking collection inspired by the ‘Medley of Nature,’ drawing deeply from the rich history of the ancient Mapungubwe Kingdom in Limpopo. The collection embodies the kingdom’s intricate social structure, the influence of trade with the Far East, and the lush ecosystem surrounding Mapungubwe.

Hangwani Nengovhela, founder and head designer of Rubicon, re-imagined the fashion of Mapungubwe’s golden age, despite the limited historical records of trends in 1200 AD. The bustling kingdom was known for its prosperity, with the ruler and upper classes residing atop a hill, symbolizing their strength and power. This societal hierarchy is mirrored in the collection through the layering of fabrics and the use of materials that evoke movement, capturing the essence of Mapungubwe’s grandeur.

Rubicon, with over 22 years of international fashion presence, is renowned for its meticulous attention to detail—transforming ordinary garments into masterpieces. This season’s collection showcases intricate top-stitching, inspired by the garments worn by emissaries from the Far East, and a striking color palette of magenta, sage, and white, reflecting the surreal landscape, horizon, and flora of the Mapungubwe region.

Mapungubwe, a kingdom that once traded its prized gold and ivory with emissaries from distant lands, has long inspired legends. The collection draws on this majestic history, designed for the #RubiconQueen—a modern globetrotter who carries the spirit, energy, and power of the Mapungubwe Kingdom wherever she goes. Whether she’s in the office or attending social events, she remains uncompromising in her elegance, embodying regal integrity.

Friday night’s showcase was opened by local artist and United Nations ambassador Maduvha, who performed her Rubicon-inspired song ‘Mapungubwe.’ Models graced the runway, adorned in the latest designs, captivating the audience with every step.

Guests included prominent figures such as Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, actresses Stha Kgoroge, Florence Masebe, and Nambitha Mpumlwana, musician Bucie Nkomo, businesswoman Futhi Matoba, and media personalities Luthando ‘Lootz’ Shosha and Zizo Tshwete, along with socialites Naliyani Uma and Mamello Makha.
