Back To The City Festival 2024: The Lineup is Out Now!
The highly anticipated Hennessy Back to the City Festival is back for its 2024 edition, and it’s shaping up to be the biggest yet! Celebrating 18 years of hip-hop excellence and 30 years of South Africa’s Freedom, this year’s festival promises an unforgettable day packed with music, culture, and entertainment on October 12th at Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown, Johannesburg.
With over 100 artists set to perform, the lineup is stacked with heavyweights and emerging talents alike. International act Benny The Butcher will be headlining, alongside South African stars Nasty C, Blxckie, Maglera Doe Boy, Big Zulu, Okmalumkoolkat, Emtee, Nadia Nakai, Stogie T, Priddy Ugly, Touchline, Ginger Trill, Siya Shezi, Zulu Mecca, Major Steez, Loatinover Pounds, Gigi Lamayne, Mashbeatz, Wordz Tha Prince, Tyson Sybateu, G Tech & Mochen, Kane Keid, and Kikky Badass from Zimbabwe. Other notable performers include Just Sam, Buzzi Lee, Xavier Thxmas, and Bizzcuit.
But the Back to the City Festival is more than just a music event—it’s a full-day celebration of hip-hop culture in all its forms. Attendees can explore 100 stalls selling streetwear, records, and art, while basketball courts, skating ramps, and gaming stations offer plenty of action for those who want to showcase their skills.
This year also brings the exciting 10K Challenge, which highlights up-and-coming talent. The 2024 winners, Black Cap & SRG, alongside finalists Mthizo, Father Teq, Oskha, and Doc Papa, are ready to prove themselves in front of a massive crowd.
Other festival highlights include a thrilling Graffiti Battle, where artists will compete to create stunning street art, and a wide variety of over 20 food and drink stalls to keep everyone fueled throughout the day.
