Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Blvck Spvde & The Cosmos, a dynamic ten-piece band, is poised to make waves with their debut EP Overjoyed Through The Noise, set to release on 18 October 2024, via Mello Music Group. Led by innovative beat-maker Blvck Spvde, the group is comprised of young, talented musicians, all bonded by their love for free jazz and a commitment to pushing musical boundaries.
Drawing inspiration from legendary and contemporary icons such as Pharaoh Sanders, Sun Ra, Madlib, and Q-Tip, Blvck Spvde & The Cosmos seamlessly blend avant-garde jazz, Afrobeat, rock, and soulful elements into a sound that resonates deeply with their audience. Their music serves as a spiritual journey, aiming to bring pieces of heaven to earth, forging connections through the universal language of sound.
The band has already built a strong following through their energetic live performances across the Midwest, including a notable co-headlining set at the Laz Jazz Festival in St. Louis. Following this performance, they recorded a live session at Black Spane, giving birth to their lead single, Doom. This track, performed to an intimate audience of friends and family, serves as a launching pad for the band’s journey into the digital space.
Never Be Another, the EP’s second single, is a powerful statement of personal growth and authenticity. Rooted in Blvck Spvde’s deep connection to the past, the song is a soulful affirmation of staying true to oneself, accentuated by a thrilling drum battle between percussionists Dhoruba Shakur, Dorian Simms, and Duane “Jingo” Williams. The closing track, What You Won’t Do, reimagines Bobby Caldwell’s classic in a way that only Blvck Spvde & The Cosmos can.
