Pearl Modiadie Shines as Feisty Lawyer in Showmax’s Law, Love & Betrayal
Pearl Modiadie, a household name in South African entertainment, has proven her versatility time and time again, from hosting shows like Craz-E and Zaziwa to presenting on Metro FM, and even acting in major series such as Scandal! and BET’s Redemption. Now, Pearl takes on a new challenge, captivating audiences as Ayanda Gumede-Williams in the new Showmax Original legal drama, Law, Love & Betrayal (LLB).
A Bold New Role
In LLB, Pearl stars as Ayanda Gumede-Williams, a brilliant and ambitious lawyer at her father’s firm, Gumede & Associates. Her character is complex, determined to win both professionally and personally. However, as Pearl reveals, Ayanda’s greatest challenge is seeking the approval and love of her father, Gatsha Gumede, played by Nimrod Nkosi.
“Ayanda is a strong character, but her drive to be the best sometimes works to her detriment,. She craves a close father-daughter relationship and longs for Gatsha’s love, but he believes in tough love.”
Pearl explains
Ayanda’s determination extends to her relationships as well. She is fiercely loyal to her best friend, Lwazi, and tries to balance her vulnerability in her personal life with the cutthroat nature of her career.
“I think that mirrors real life: how we often present different versions of ourselves to different people.”
Pearl adds,
Researching the Role
While playing a lawyer in LLB required a certain level of legal knowledge, Pearl focused more on emotional research to portray Ayanda authentically.
“I had to dig deep to understand Ayanda’s character. I had to recall what it’s like to want something so badly and to fight for what you truly love, to invest in friendships and then be betrayed. I had to remember those moments in my life and channel them into Ayanda.”
she says
Stepping into Ayanda’s World
Pearl’s previous roles as Yvonne in Redemption and Kefilwe in Scandal! may have prepared her for playing another strong character, but Ayanda presents unique challenges.
“Like Yvonne, who is ambitious and pushes people to be their best, Ayanda shares that drive. However, Kefilwe was more of a free spirit, while Ayanda is calculated and has her eyes on success.”
Pearl notes
The 13-episode series promises to blend the drama of the legal world with compelling personal stories of love and betrayal. Pearl is particularly excited for viewers to see the law firm scenes where Ayanda shines as a fierce lawyer.
“I love Ayanda when she’s being a badass lawyer. She’s fierce and does whatever it takes to get what she wants.”

On-Screen Dynamics with Nimrod Nkosi
Sharing the screen with veteran actor Nimrod Nkosi was a special experience for Pearl.
“Nimrod is such a great actor, and I truly enjoyed working with him. Our on-screen dynamics will really shine through.”
she says
Reflecting on her first encounter with Nimrod years ago when he interviewed her on Soweto TV, Pearl marvels at how their careers have come full circle.
A Strong Cast and High Expectations
Pearl is excited about the talented cast of LLB, which includes Dineo Rasedile in her first adult role.
“Working alongside someone like Nimrod Nkosi was quite special. I think beautiful television is what we’ve created; that’s what I’m really excited about.”
Pearl shares
With LLB set to captivate viewers with its rich storyline, stunning cinematography, and complex characters, Pearl Modiadie’s portrayal of Ayanda Gumede-Williams is sure to leave a lasting impression.
