One Weeks: Mangaliso Aluta Mthembu—A Star is Born!

The hit Showmax Original family comedy One Weeks has introduced the world to a rising star—Mangaliso Aluta Mthembu. At just 11 years old, Mangaliso has captivated audiences with her hilarious and heartwarming portrayal of Angie, a sharp-witted 10-year-old who helps her mother’s boyfriend, Fana (played by Zakhele Mabasa-Mokone), navigate his relationship with her successful lawyer mother, Lihle (played by Sihle Ndaba).

A Scene-Stealer from the Start

Mangaliso, affectionately known as “Frozen” or “Woolies” by fans of the show, has quickly become a standout character. Her performance has sparked a wave of admiration on social media, with fans taking to X (formerly Twitter) to express their excitement.

“MANGALISO ALUTA MTHEMBU. A STAR IS BORN. #oneweekshowmax.”

As Hlumelo (@HFesi) tweeted,

For Mangaliso, the journey to becoming Angie began in 2022 when her “momager,” Zama Kheswa, learned about the casting opportunity.

“My mom told me that there was this show that required a child, so she and I took action and did a video audition which was sent to production,”.

Mangaliso recalls

After a few weeks of anticipation, she was thrilled to learn that she had landed the role. Filming began in December 2023, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Behind the Scenes Fun

Working on One Weeks has been a dream come true for Mangaliso.

“I enjoyed acting alongside Aunt Sihle and Uncle Zakhele. We just had so much fun and it hardly felt like work. The best part was us all being in the green room after rehearsals. It was really just a fun vibe of chats and singing.”

she says

Mangaliso also had the pleasure of working with comedy heavyweights Siphiwe Mtshali and Mpho Malatsi.

“If you thought those two are funny on-screen, you have no idea how silly they can get behind the scenes,”.

A Natural Talent

One Weeks isn’t the first show Mangaliso has aspired to be part of.

“I’m someone who watches a lot of shows and I’ve always wanted to see myself on TV,”.

she says

One of her favorite shows is Umkhokha, and she has a particular admiration for cast member Hope Mbhele.

“I remember posting a video of myself expressing my love of the show and my interest in acting alongside Hope as her child in the show. I didn’t realize the traction that video would get as many people viewed and reposted it.”

What’s Next for Mangaliso?

With her breakthrough role in One Weeks, Mangaliso’s future is bright. She’s already thinking about what comes next.

“After One Weeks, I’d like to either be on a kids reality show or maybe play the role of a gangster’s child,”.
