Kenyan Altè Maven King Kerby’s ‘Saba (Deluxe)’ Soars After Successful Launch

Following the highly anticipated release of ‘Saba (Deluxe)’ on 14 June 2024, Nairobi-based multidisciplinary artist King Kerby has solidified his position as a frontrunner in Kenya’s burgeoning indie music scene. The deluxe album, featuring seven additional tracks to the original ‘Saba,’ has been met with widespread acclaim from fans and critics alike.

The project, produced, mixed, and mastered by award-winning South African producers Zino D and LD Beats, showcases Kerby’s versatility and growth as an artist. The collaboration with these seasoned producers, known for their work with Nasty C, has elevated the album’s sound to new heights. 

Standout tracks like “Deuce,” featuring South African rapper Ta’Eish, and silky cuts such as  “What You Want,” with vocalist Rachel Kendi, have garnered significant attention since their earlier releases. The visuals for “What You Want,” directed by the late Tilu The Creator, have been praised for their artistic merit and serve as a touching tribute to the talented director’s legacy.

King Kerby‘s live debut of the album at Snowball Studios, Nairobi, on 15 June 2024, was a resounding success. The intimate setting provided fans with an immersive experience into the ‘Saba’ realm, delivering on Kerby’s promise of a “sonically cozy and homely” atmosphere. Attendees praised the performance for its authenticity and the depth of emotion conveyed through Kerby’s live renditions.
