Holysseus Fly (Ishmael Ensemble) returns to Severn Songs with ‘Out Of This World”’ (Release Date: March 8th, 2024), the first single since the release of her critically acclaimed debut EP ‘Birthpool’, which included the BBC 6 Music playlisted single ‘Teach Me’.

Written and produced in her home studio, ‘Out Of This World’ sees Holysseus Fly raise the bar to thrilling levels for her most expansive sound yet. Arriving on International Women’s Day, the single’s empowering sentiment of manifesting hope for the future is delivered with immensity, through the lens of an artist adept at delving into the darkness, whilst searching for the light. Lyrics imbued with her trademark self-determination and raw vulnerability brim with emotion, adding tension to the rising soundscape of drums and strings, as Fly’s soaring vocal nods to the scale of her ambition.

“In Out of This World I am imagining building my life like I’m building a house. I wrote and produced the song at home and shot the artwork there too. It’s a manifestation of hope for the future. To take myself, my family and community out of this world and up into the sky. It even features a sample I took of jingling my house keys. The opening line, “Your window is stuck in its frame”, outlines how I was seeing things through a negative perspective. I was at home looking out at the world feeling deflated. The window in your home literally frames how you see the world. “I’ll build them up”, is me reinforcing the walls of my house, laying the foundations for my future. I am determined to break through the glass ceiling. “The blue” is to me the unknown that lies ahead, whatever that is, the uncertainty of it all that I am willing to ride out to go out of this world. That’s what this song is about.”
