Summer is here and the festive season is around the corner. It will soon be time to relax and soak up the beautiful sunny days with clear blue skies, the long balmy evenings and the fun-loving vibes that fill the air. It’s a magical time of the year when there is so much to celebrate, and nothing says celebration quite like a glass of chilled bubbly. So, pop open the cork and celebrate in sparkling style with the magic of Journey’s End Brut Reserve Cap Classique.

Journey’s End Vineyards, the boutique winery and vineyard situated on the mountain slopes above Sir Lowry’s Pass Village in the Helderberg basin, launched their Brut Reserve in 2021 to celebrate Journey’s End’s 25th anniversary and 50 years of Cap Classique production.

Tasting notes: The Journey’s End Brut Reserve is made from traditional Champagne grape varieties: 66 % Pinot Noir, 33 % Chardonnay and 1% Pinot Meunier. This elegant and refreshing Cap Classique exhibits vibrant notes of citrus and pear complemented by crushed almonds and creamy biscuit undertones. Full bodied and complex, it is well balanced by fresh zestiness as a result of the naturally racy acidity and delicate fruit. Served well chilled, it is perfect on its own as an aperitif and an ideal partner for oysters.

In the vineyards and the cellar: The Journey’s End team worked closely with the Grier family of Villiera in selecting their NV Brut Reserve Cuvée from cooler climate vineyards in the Stellenbosch appellation. Slightly unripe, healthy grapes were harvested by hand early in the season. Whole bunches were pressed very gently in a pneumatic press according to a specialised Champagne pressing programme. Only the finest cuvée was used in the blend and yeast and sugar were then added for a secondary fermentation in the bottle which took 6 weeks, producing the light and magical bubbles. It was subsequently matured in contact with the lees for approximately 18 months, adding texture and complexity of flavour.

Purchase: Journey’s End Brut Reserve Cap Classique is available for purchase at R330 per bottle at the cellar door, or online at: https://shop.journeysend.co.za/product/journeys-end-mcc-brut-reserve/
