Samsung Galaxy S23 Review

The Samsung Galaxy S23 is the smaller and less expensive model from the Galaxy S23 range which does not include the fancy features that the S23 Ultra has but they is still a lot to like with the Galaxy S23.

The Galaxy S23 is the most compact model of the new series and also pack nearly the same features as the Galaxy S22.

Anyone looking for the new features will have to pay more money for the S23 Ultra but still there are a handful of some notable upgrades compare to the S22 like:

  • The battery is larger (3900mAh; 25W wired, PD3.0, 50% in 30 min (advertised), Wireless (Qi/PMA), 4.5W reverse wireless).
  • The screen is brighter (The peak brightness of the panel has been improved, and it’s now 1750 nits, up from 1300 nits).
  • and much more powerful chipset (Qualcomm SM8550-AC Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 (4 nm): Octa-core (1×3.36 GHz Cortex-X3 & 2×2.8 GHz Cortex-A715 & 2×2.8 GHz Cortex-A710 & 3×2.0 GHz Cortex-A510); Adreno 740).

The design has changed too, you get the same compact form factor for both the back and the front which are now made from more durable Gorilla Glass Victus 2 with improved drop resistance. Urban Lifestyle are big fans of the matte finish on the back, which doesn’t attract fingerprints or feel slippery. It carries an IP68 rating, which means it can survive a dunk in water up to five feet deep for up to 30 minutes and you also get no more camera bump that wraps into the aluminum armor with each camera sticking out individually from the back.

The triple camera on the back has seen no improvements – the 50MP OIS primary, the 10MP 3x telephoto, and the 12MP ultrawide camera stay the same. What has been upgraded is the selfie camera – it is now 12MP and supports Super HDR, while autofocus and 4K capturing remain available.

As published on Urban Lifestyle you will noticed that the Galaxy S23 range is made from even more recycle material in an effort to reduce waste.

Other noticeable features will be the panel of the front screen which is sharp with over 420ppi and the color accuracy is consistence great. The only things we consider missing are 10-bit color depth for the screen, something many high-end phones are offering.

The phone includes a volume rocker and power button on the right side, but the top and left are bare. A SIM card slot, a USB-C port, and one of the two speakers are on the bottom; the other speaker is positioned at the very top of the phone’s face where the glass and metal frame meet.

The battery capacity has been increased by 200mAh, and it’s now 3,900mAh. The charging capabilities are the same as on the S22 – 25W wired charging, with wireless and reverse wireless options available. Which means together with the chipset will make a more battery life but compare to the S22, the S23 it charges much slower probably because of the bigger battery as mention above.

Connectivity-wise, the Galaxy S23 introduces tri-band Wi-Fi with 6e support and Bluetooth 5.3. The Ultra Wideband support is still reserved for the Plus and Ultra versions.

Long story short – the Samsung Galaxy S23 is a minor update over the Galaxy S22, and Urban Lifestyle doubt that many S22 owners will find enough novelties to make them upgrade. But it has more than enough new features over the Galaxy S21 and older to make it an attractive offer. Even better, it is shaping as the best compact Android phone on the market.
