In Part 1 and 2 we learned that after a decade of intermittent travel, touring and theatrics apart and together, Spoek Mathambo and Carla Fonseca under the Batuk moniker, have returned to South Africa once again. The duo are fluid and conscious in their creations, with Spoek as Mzansi’s Future-Sound pioneer and Carla as a Mozambique-Reiger Park influenced performance potentate; both with Pan African passions. Melding their talents in their initial releases within Gira, Daniel and Musica De Terra to name a few, as well as their collaborative production, Modjaji, they’ve embarked on a new quest here at home, with their latest EP and accompanying video entitled MOVE, reintroducing us to what “Kasi Royalty” looks and sounds like. We sat with Batuk to carry on the discussion that we had seen going on from Part 1 and Part 2.
