Nike South Africa culminated in an epic show of basketball, dance, DJ beats and rap bars at the Zoo Lake courts on 19 & 26 November 2017 at Zoo Lake Basketball Courts. Basketball fans, celebrities, and guests made their way to the event to celebrate this basketball-inspired show that brings together rappers, DJ’s, Fashionistas, and Dancers.

As part of Nike’s commitment to developing the sport of basketball and inspiring future athletes in South Africa, the brand has rejuvenated one of the country’s original B-balling battle grounds– the Zoo Lake basketball courts. For the first time in Africa, Nike has turned iconic local courts into a magnificent artwork.

For this project, Nike collaborated with two talented local artists in Faatimah Mohamed-Luke and Karabo Moletsane to create the new design of the Zoo Lake basketball courts. Combining elements from their own signature styles, the design is inspired by the concrete jungle of Joburg city and brings a distinctly and proudly African narrative to the game. Check out the video to see how it was all started.

Hosted by Scoop Makhathini and Loot Love and were joined by Mkayfrash to present the Battle Camo Challenge, DJ Speedsta to present the Battle Mix Challenge and Tarryn to present the Battle Dance Challenge. The battles were the ultimate celebration of sport and creativity as athletes and artists from all corners of the city arrived to compete.

The Wood Peckers team took home the grand prize of R50K. Enjoy the visual above.
