iPhupho L’ka Biko invites you to Soweto Theatre on the 26th of October 2018 at 8pm to come and dream with them as they sonicly engage the audience on the cultural status quo in concentration camps, otherwise known as townships. After performing at a number of venues in and around Johannesburg, iPhupho L’ka Biko embarks on an important mission to take their music to the natives of Azania. Following a great reception in Alexandra, iPhupho L’ka Biko brings their vibrant music to Soweto.
The audience should look forward to a special evening, where they will be taken on a journey of Afrocentric sounds. Featuring the legendary bab’Khaya Mahlangu affirms that indeed indlela ibuzwa kwabaphambili. Also joining iPhupho L’ka Biko on stage will be the gifted poet, Makhafula Vilakazi who is well-known for his passionate narration of black stories.
iPhupho L’ka Biko is currently working towards their EP (Extended Play). The audience can expect a beautiful repertoire which will include some of their new compositions. The sound compels one to reflect on the Sophiatown era where live music was central to the development of urban culture that shaped jazz music. About iPhupho L’ka Biko’s music, V Njabulo Zwane in iLiso had this to say: “iPhupho’s music is a call, an invitation, to dream… to allow oneself to travel across space and time in search for a world where we young black people will not represent the problem that we currently embody.”
Come and witness how far iPhupho L’ka Biko has come since their inception in 2015.
